Zen Master Talks on Women and Children in Prison
we are pleased to announce a special guest speaker a week from this Sat. evening, which is July 23rd at 7 pm. His name is
Kinloch C. Walpole and he is the abbot of the Gateless Gate Zen Center in Gainesville, Florida. Trained in Rienzi Zen under the instruction of Zen Master Bon Haeng (Mark Houghton), he is the dharma heir of Zen Master Seung Sahn
He is riding his motorcycle across the country on an 11,000 mile journey to spread the message about mothers and children in the jails and prisons of the nation. To get a real sense of the tragedy you can go to
and get a sense of how the academic viewpoint meshes with the reality and you will get a true picture of a cultural dysfunction that exists across the country.
"This is not about Zen although this I teach. This is not about Buddhism although this I try to practice. This is not about me although at this point I am the messenger. This is about a cultural dysfunction that is dooming babies to a life of addictions, abuse and incarceration just by virtue of where they are born. Know full well and up front that there are over 95,000 children locked up in juvenal facilities across the nation. This is not an academic or esoteric problem but a carefully devised situation created through special interest groups exerting political pressure on elected official for which no books of the likes of Profiles in Courage will ever be written."
h C. Walpole
Please join us in bearing witness to this important message about the suffering of women and children in prison and the effects of our policies on them.
