Art Tours, Etc. takes you to Venice for the Venice Biennale

Join Art Tours, Etc on this exciting trip to the Venice Biennale where we will spend two days together exploring the beautiful city, the national pavilions, and many of the art exhibitions on display.

The Venice Biennale is considered one of the two most important international exhibitions, and it is the only one that features individual shows from countries around the world, each of them with their own pavilions/buildings.

This year is also special as several countries from Africa, the Pacific, and the Middle East participate for the first time.

We will check out a selection of the best pavilions and exhibitions and discuss the work, history and and background of the Venice Biennale.  This will be a weekend art, history, and culture, but also lots of socializing and walking...So bring good walking shoes!

About the Venice Biennale:
55th International Art Exhibition, The Encyclopedic Palace

The title chosen by curator Massimiliano Gioni for the 55th International Art Exhibition is Il Palazzo Enciclopedico / The Encyclopedic Palace. Massimiliano Gioni introduced the choice of theme evoking the Italo-American self-taught artist Marino Auriti who “on November 16, 1955 filed a design with the US Patent office depicting his Palazzo Enciclopedico (The Encyclopedic Palace), an imaginary museum that was meant to house all worldly knowledge, bringing together the greatest discoveries of the human race, from the wheel to the satellite. Auriti’s plan was never carried out, of course, but the dream of universal, all-embracing knowledge crops up throughout history, as one that eccentrics like Auriti share with many other artists, writers, scientists, and prophets who have tried - often in vain - to fashion an image of the world that will capture its infinite variety and richness.”

When: Friday, October 18-20, 2013
Cost: 650fr per person includes hotel, tickets to all the exhibitions, private tour guide provided by Art Tours, Etc. for the entire weekend (namely me), full-day schedule prepared in advance including restaurant reservations, and presentations and discussions contextualizing the Biennale historically.

RSVP to [masked]

To make your way to Venice, I suggest flying.  Tickets can be reserved online with Swiss or other airlines, and they can be very affordable if they are purchased way in advance, once you decide to join the group.
