Azure Coding Day

We have been working together with Microsoft to set up a training day about Windows Azure in September.

As you surely know, Azure is Microsoft's cloud platform and infrastructure. It provides both platform as a service (PaaS) and infrastructure as a service (IaaS) services and supports many different programming languages, tools and frameworks, including both Microsoft-specific and third-party software and systems.

In order to best cover the wealth of possibilities that Azure offers for your application or infrastructure we need more than a simple meetup, so we are putting together a coding day, where you can come and learn about Azure, code, share experiences with others. Michael Epprecht from Microsoft will be there to present Azure and answer questions.

The rough agenda for the day will be:

09:00 Arrival & Introduction

09:15 Setup & Azure subscriptions handover & registration (Michael)

09:45 Introductory Presentations

11:00 Individual / Group Coding

13:00 Lunch & Code

14:30 Individual / Group Coding

16:00 Presentation of projects

16:30 Q&A

17:00 Close

The event will be held at the PartnerRe offices in Zurich (Bellerivestrasse 36, 8034 Zurich) on the 21st of September at 09:00. It's a Saturday, but we hope that you think it is worth getting out of bed for.

Hello, Can you send to me the live id you associated with the Azure trial this last user group meeting? It would be great if you can send me the code you used as well. We need it ASAP for providing it to Microsoft - sorry about this but we forgot to write down the live ids at the meeting. Thanks in advance!!!

Hallo sama (Hello all), first things first, thanks for attending. Second, I have created a poll (up on the menu, more -> polls) so please vote to see if we should provide more content regarding Azure, doing a more deep dive into any of the developer-focused topics (Azure mobile services for example..) but that is a topic for another poll if this one is successful.

Now, please, go and vote :)

Thanks to Jacob, Jose, Nigel and especially Michael for the effort to bring us all along further in MS Azure. I had to leave before Michael could present anything about "my favorite Azure Tools". If anything along these lines was later presented, and there are any slides or offline information (docs, links) available, I would be delighted to get them.

It was good as a starting point for Windows Azure. I would expect a follow up with more advanced topics on application architecture (messaging, CQRS, multitenant apps, scaling, etc)

Speaking with Michael Epprecht, he stated that the following configurations will work fine:

    OS: Windows 7, 8, 8.1
    DEV: VS 2012, 2013
SDK from: Latest SDK is always on the Azure web site for all supported VS editions

Also, for those that want to "warm up", the getting started tutorial is also on that page as a link..

    Hope that helps :)

See you on the 21th of September!!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
