Weekend skiing in Davos - staying at Jacobshorn (2600 meters)

  • March 8, 2013 · 6:00 AM

Dear All,

The idea would be to do some spring skiing in Davos, known for World Economic Forum, but also for its great ski runs. There are various areas to go skiing, i.e. Parsenn, Jacobshorn, Rinerhorn, Madrisa and Pischa and not to be forgotten Davos is connected with Klosters skiing area. There are blue, red, black, off-piste and also a number of marked non prepared ski pistes which are worth exploring. Of course one can also do snowshoeing, sunbathing at the chairs (assuming there is sun) etc.

We would be staying at the Jacobshorn hostel, situated at 2600 meters above sea-level. From here you can see the sunset and not unimportantly you will be the first one on the slopes given that this hostel is the top of the cable car where all skiers arrive.

It is important to note that, as it is typically the case in mountain resorts, that the last cable car goes up the mountain at 4pm so you need to take that cable car otherwise you will no longer make it to the top and have to find accommodation in Davos. Given that the train from zurich to Davos take 2 hours and a bit, you probably should leave at the latest directly after lunch or as I will do first thing in the morning to maximize skiing.

There are 86 beds in the hostel spread over 17 rooms, typically rooms of 4 to 8 people. It is recommended to bring your sleeping bag along.

The price for 2 nights accommodation, 3 days ski pass (friday- saturday and sunday), breakfast and dinner (excluding drinks) is 265 swiss francs. I have made a reservation for 15 to 25 people which I need to confirm in the next 10 days. Therefore it would be great to know your feedback by february 17 (next sunday) so that I can finalize bookings. Payments would then need to be made to by February 20. In case there is limited or no interest, I will cancel this event.

Please note that I do not want to find myself in a situation where I need to sign a contract and make payments for x people, and then some of you do not show up or have not made payments. By clicking yes on this event, you have shown interest in this activity and payments become due.

As always, if you can-t make it, there will be no refunds however someone else can take over your spot.

For those who received a ski card from me, as explained, there is a 20 francs deposit on it, so if not already done, would appreciate it in the next days to receive the 20 francs back on my bank account.

During this weekend, there is the famous Parsenn Derby, i.e. downhill race for amateur teams and individuals, so it might be busy on the Parsenn side.

I was thinking to get up early on saturday or sunday morning and ski down on the ungroomed run, starting directly at our hotel and ski down all the way to Teufi. Der ersten Bus von Teufi nach Davos Dorf fährt um 07.00 / 07.45 (Montag - Samstag ohne. Feiertage)
    dann 08.23 / 09.23 / 10.23 / 11.23

    Von Davos Dorf fährt dann die Linie 4 nach Pischa 08.33 / 08.40 / 08.55 / 09.03 / 09.18 / 09.33 / 09.48 / 10.03 / 10.18 / 10.34

Hello all. I will join you and arrive friday during daytime and do some skiing already. I have made my own booking and it sounded like there was still space available.
I will start in Bern at 07:32, be in Zurich at 08:37 and be in Davos Platz at 10:55h. It would be great if someone would join me and/or meet me later in Davos.

Just to be clear ... I made my own booking directly with the hostel, so no activity is needed by you, Patrick.

If there are still places open I'd be very interested in joining you on Saturday for two days skiing. If that's possible please let me know how much it would cost and where I would pick up the ski pass.

    • Patrick

Hi Mark, Phil - in the past there have been some issues with people taking over spots and then the other person claims he/she was not paid, so therefore please make any payments to me first - I will then make refund to Phil.

I have made a train booking for 10 people departure 6.37 am on friday arrival 8.55 am davos platz. I then have to walk 5 minutes to the jakobshorn cable car and pick up the ski tickets. Normally luggage is put on a carriage and this is transported up by the cable car personnel - the luggage can be picked up in the evening. I assume that we will have dinner around 7pm on friday, so for those who come later surely after 4.30pm we will see us at the cafetaria of jakobshorn.

As mentioned before, please bring along sleeping bag and towel.

    • Pam

Hi Patrick, I made the payment on Monday. I think there is a mistake: it s not Angela but Pamela. Could you please correct this especially in the list to get the ski pass. Thanks!

      February 27, 2013

  • kerstin

    Hi Patrick,
is it still possible to join (2 persons, 2 nights, 2- day-skipass (Saturday & Sunday)? Are there also double rooms availabe?
    Thanks for your answer.
    Kerstin

    February 26, 2013

    • Patrick

Dear Imke/Kerstin, I have clarified your question with them this morning on the phone. They provide only the option 1 night/2 day ski pass (175 francs) or 2 nights/3 day ski pass. If you come for 2 nights and only want 2 day skipasses, you need to pay additionally a ticket to go to top of Jakobshorn on friday night which cost around 35 francs - so I suggest you buy 2 nights/3 day skipass which is only marginally more expensive.

      February 27, 2013

    • Patrick

Depending on what option you choose, it is either 175 francs per person ( 1 night/2 day skipass/breakfast and dinner) or 265 francs(2 nights/3day ski pass/2 dinner and 2 breakfast). Hope this helps,

    Dear All,

I have noticed that there is a divergence between people who signed up and those who made a transfer. As I explained earlier I want to finalize the booking. I will extend the dates one more time till wednesday this week. If the money is not on my bank account by then, I assume you are not coming. Sorry for being a bit blunt, but group bookings needs to be done in a structured way - I can-t change the status every 5 minutes. Thanks for your understanding.

@ Christel - will get back to you regarding prices

@ Mira, I do not know how busy the hotel will be - typically there are no rooms for 2 people, however if not so busy it might be that a room for 4 or 6 persons can be used by 2 only.

@ Wolfgang, car can be parked right in front of Jacobshorn cable car - there is large parking.
