For those who can not make it to the first walk and wine, here is the alternative option.
So since some fine wineries open for a second "Tag der offenen Weinkeller" on the 4th of May, there is the great opportunity to enjoy Switzerland in Spring and the even more local wines & regional food. This time the idea is to combine the tasting with a nice walk in the area between Brugg & Baden.
We meet at Zurich Hauptbahnhof below the hanging Angel (when you walk in from the Limmat-Side Entrance, this is in the middle of the main hall, just look up, and you will find it) at 8.50 and catch the the 9.06 Train to Brugg / Bern. At Brugg we get out and walk to the bridge of the River Reuss , cross it and follow the river upstream to Birmenstorf (7.5 Km – 1.5 – 2hrs), where we arrive around 11 o`clock at the Weinbaugenossenschaft Birmenstorf, Bruggerstrasse 3, 5413 Birmenstorf, www.birmenstorfer.ch
At about 11.45 we continue, and walk to Baden, where we cross the town. Please ignore the temptation to have a cool beer in one of the pubs, as the next wine is waiting just across the river in Ennetbaden. We will arrive at about 14.00 pm at Weingut Jürg Wetzel, Weinkellerei Hertensteinstrasse, 5408 Ennetbaden to enjoy the well deserved second wine and late lunch. www.weingutjuergwetzel.ch
After that that, you have are two options – keep on enjoying the wine and return directly to Zurich form Baden (plenty of trains) or at around 15.00 pm to continue another 45 minutes to the Weinbau Paul Steimer, Lindenplatz 10, 5430 Wettingen, www.steimer-weinbau.ch. From there it is about 15 minutes to the Bahnhof Wettingen, where trains depart to Zurich about every 15 minutes, e.g. 16.55, 17.18.
The total walk is about 21,5 km - approx. 4,5 - 5 hrs. About 1 hrs less if you return directly from Ennetbaden. To check out the route, please look here:
I look forward to seeing you.
