UPDATE 01July 10: Hi everyone, Tomorrow is the big day to hike and eat. Weather is just perfect for the whole weekend. We will also escape the heat of the city and go to a refreshing nice place, just perfect to spend the day outside and enjoy a nice glass of wine or prosecco with a great view. I will buy some grouptickets ONE WAY for tomorrow Friday. No need this time to tell me if you have halbtax or not, I will just buy a bunch of Halbtax and GAs and "Erwachsene" tickets. I can always bring them back if I don't use them. There are 18 people signed up....super! There seems to be still room in the hut if you know of someone who wants to join last minute. In this case, please call directly to the hut under the number[masked] and talk to Ms. Myriam Rheinhard. Don't forget to bring along your overnight belongings, water, food for the way, sunscreen, etc. See you then! Sven [masked] UPDATE 22.June 10 (CHECK THE DAY AND DEPARTURE TIME!!!) Hi everyone, The big date for a the Gourmet Hike is coming up..yeah! I have inquired whether it would be possible to have vegetarian meal...the answer is yes, even though the menu is still a secret by the cook, the possibility exist to have fish or vegetables instead of meat. I just need to tell them before (right now I have only one person you requested a "vegetarian" meal). We will start hiking from the Busstop Glecksteinweg which cuts our hiking path for one hour and avoid the steepest part to hike on. The hike from here would take us about 3 - 3.5 hours (it says 2.5 hours officially but we want to enjoy the place as well, no?). Going up is about[masked] meters. Here goes the schedule: Zürich HB ab 11:00 14 Bern an 11:57 5 Bern ab 12:04 4 Interlaken Ost an 12:57 Interlaken Ost ab 13:05 Grindelwald an 13:39 Grindelwald ab 14:15 Abz. Glecksteinweg : 14:25 PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS EVENT IS ON A FRIDAY TO SATURDAY! On Saturday, we will come down from the hike and, hopp on the train back to Zürich to see the fireworks at the Züri Fescht. Whoever wants to stay is welcome to do so. Dominique suggested to go to Grindelwaldgletscher and/or over the Grosse Scheidegg and do an overnight stay somewhere to be defined. To bring along: - Extra cloth for after the hike - "Hutscheet" is recommended - is a very thin sheet to use it on huts as they don't wash the bedsheets so often. You can buy it on any sportstore. - Water/Food for the way - Enough cash to pay the hut and train. - Rain, Wind, Sun Protection of any kind - Poles are recommended - Good shoes Did I forget something? Then I'll write it later. Best, Sven Hi everyone, Last year I attended a "Gourmet Hike". Yes..that is right...Gourmet as of very delicatessen-type of food after hiking into a paradise of a hut. This year, I have reserved space in the hut for 15 people to join. The idea is to start the hike from Grindelwald up to the Glecksteinhütte, which is one of the most beautiful huts I have seen so far. I will assure you that you will see glaciers, mountain goats (Steinböcke) and a beautiful scenery down the valley, not to mention the powerful views on the Eiger and Jungfrau. You can see some of last year's pictures by clicking here. The hike itself is a bit strenuous as it goes up about 1000 meters, taking about 4-4.5 hours to hike up, but at least the path is very good. The dinner is very special. The hut brings in a special cook from Germany who specializes in doing great food in "odd" places. Last year the dinner consisted of a seven entree course with the appropriate wine for it, whereby the cook explained in both German and English about his creation. The dinner is designed in such a way that mixes the delight of the food with the surroundings of the mountains. The price of the Gourmet hike is CHF 135.- which includes the stay overnight at the hut plus the exclusive dinner and the "normal" breakfast in the morning. An additional CHF 10.- will place you in a "Comfort-Room", instead of the big sleeping room. There are 6 spaces for the Comfort-Room which I reserved. First comes, first serves. One has to include the train ticket to Grindelwald as well if not arriving by car. Now, here is the catch...I could not reserve anymore for the Saturday, just for the Friday. Hence, I need to survey how many of you are able and willing to come so that I can adjust the number of reservation. Please confirm your attendance before the 14th of June. Hence, when signing up, please indicate if you want to be in a Comfort-Room or not. I will update with more information at a later stage. Best to all, Sven
