We've got a nice window of good snow and wonderful weather forecasted this Saturday! I have not done much of Snowshoeing, and this is now the time!
The idea is to go snowshoe hiking to the "Sonnenweg" in Wirzweli, Kanton of Nidwalden (yes...somewhere in the heart of Switzerland):
Wirzweli - Gummenbahn Talstation - Hinterhegen - Ächerli - Seewli - hintere Huismatt- Wirzweli
The hike takes about 4 hrs and is 9km long with an up and down descent of 277m (here the description in german: http://www.globaltrail.ch/de/schneeschuhwanderung/sonnenweg.html).
Please note that this is a marked and secure trail, graded as "Blue" (I guess that is easy, but then again it is 4 hours of hiking with rackets on your feet).
One can rent Snowshoes at the Gondola Station (
Please by a ticket to and from Dallenwil.
If you miss us on the meeting point, please go directly to the train and catch us there. If you don't find us, give me a call - please don't sent SMS "W r u?" as I am very slow in typing back a whole explanation on where we are - a call is quicker.
To bring along:
- Water (min. 1 Liter)
- Food (Cookies, Snacks, Sandwiches, etc)
- Snow, Sun and Rain protection (creme, glasses, jackets)
- Extra clothes (after the hike)
- Steady shoes to fit to a Snowshoe
- Hiking Poles are recommended
I hold the right to cancel the trip due to weather or illness reasons. I'll do my best to let you know as soon as possible. Please look into the website and email for any changes before you head to the meeting point, or at least the night before the event.
Ok, that said, lets go out into the Swiss Alps and enjoy the mountains!
Hope to see you then!
