Rapperswil to Zurich Trail Run (33km 600m elevation gain)

  • March 30 · 8:00 AM
  • Zürich HB

Please note, this is a run not a hike!

The plan is to run from Rapperswil to Zurich along the Pfannenstiel.  This looks like a great run and has been recommended a couple of other fellow runners.  There will also be a treat at the end, brunch at Bohemia (www.bohemia.ch)!

For those that have the appropriate technology, i have the gpx file of the route which i can email to you to avoid people getting lost once we separate due to different running speeds.  I will also bring along copies of the map so you know where to go.

Trains
Plan is to take the 8:25am train from Zurich HB arriving at Rapperswil at 9:01am and start running shortly after.  We meet under the angel at 8:10am and move to the train shortly after, tickets in hand.

Plan to finish the run at around 3.5 hours, maybe 4, hopefully!

Essential equipment to bring with you:

• Trail running shoes

• Backpack

• Mobile / cell-phone (switched on at all times)

• Insulation blanket (it can be very cold if you get wet and have to stop due to injury)

• Water-proof jacket in case it rains

• A warm long sleeved layer in case it gets cold

• Water and nutrition (gels, bars, etc) to keep you going for 3-4 hours running (includes safety margin in case of delays)

If weather looks horrible i may cancel the event. It´s no fun running in the rain!!

I hope to organize more of these runs over the next few months in preparation for some summer running i have planned. Please let me know if you are interested in these kind of activities in the future and i would be very pleased to hear of suggestions for routes. If you have a run/route you particularly like the look of with hopefully a gpx file that i can upload please let me know.

Hey Tom, it was an awesome route! I did it on my own pace, but I made it! I finished by the Zoo, not sure if it was the right spot.

Don't worry about it mate. Did you get further than Froch? I got slightly lost in the forest, but on my detour found a cabin with a cold fountain, was the perfect break.

Hi, I would like to join such trail runs (or difficult hikes with excessive difference in altitude), but I am not trained enough to run for 33 km. about 15-18 km with 400m elevation gain would be fine.

I'd love to participate, but not for the whole 33 km, max. 15 km - would that also be possible?

yeah no worries, with these long runs it's quite common that people might drop out if they're not feeling it.

it should be quite straightforward to drop down off the pfannensteil to somewhere to get public transport

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
