Snowshoe tour to Maighelshuette

  • Apr 5, 2014 · 6:30 AM

In der verschneiten Landschaft steht die Maighels-Hütte.

Aufstieg zum Piz Cavradi mit Maighels Hütte

Dear All,

The idea is to go for a snowshoe tour to the Maighelshuette (2310 meters above sea level). The hut will be reached in 2, 5 hours on a marked trail (see poles below) from Alp Tschamut.

I suggest we take the train at 6.37 am - arriving in Chur at 7.52 am, departing Chur at 7.56 am, arrival in Disentis at 9.11 am, departing Disentis at 9.14 and arrival in Tschamut. We can have lunch at the hut.

On the way back we can decide to take the same route back and/or we can walk to Oberalp pass which is 1,5 hours away.

To bring along:

* Rainproof gear (we are in the mountains)

* snowshoes (hiking without them in the traces of someone in front of you might work as well, however we are walking in the free nature and this area had lots of snow, so hiking without snowshoe is not that recommended. They can be rented at Transa, Bachli and other sport shops).

* Water

* Snacks

* Photo

* Suncream

Please note : if the weather forecast for saturday is really bad, then I either cancel the trip or move it to sunday.

    Patrick-I missed the train. Cut it a little to close this morning. Anyway. If it's easy to meet up, I'll take the next one. If it's too difficult, I'll catch you next time.

    Dear All, typically we meet under the blue angel 15 min before departure or (when coming late) directly in the respective compartment in the front of the train where there should be a meet up sign on the outside windows of the train. Not sure yet which track it is . Looking forward to it.

      Hi Begoña,
      According to the SBB website the destination name is Tschamut-Selva where we are supposed to arrive at 09:43am.

    Hi all, not done a meetup before, this trip looks great. Is it too late to sign up? I can join the group in Chur in the morning for the 7:56 to Disentis? Thanks

    Hi, what is the difficulty rating for the climb. I have my own snow shoes and want to join.

      Dear Cheryl, Tschamut is at 1680 meter and Maighelshuette is at 2300 meter so it is a 600 m altitude climb. The hike mainly goes up but there is nothing technically difficult about it.

      Hi Cheryl, I have seen that you signed up for the other meet up hike the same day so i assume this is not your cup of tea ))--
