Please note, this is a run not a hike!
The plan is to run from Einsieldeln to Zug via Unterageri. This follows stages 9 and 10 of the Alpine Panorama Trail which stretches from Bodensee to Lac Leman.
Stage 9 - Einsieldeln to Unterageri
The varied pre-Alpine tour leads from the famous monastery town of Einsiedeln along an old pilgrims’ path over the Chatzenstrick to the almost as famous upland moors of Rothenthurm, then on over the Raten (views!) to the tranquil Aegerisee lake in the Zug region.
Stage 10 - Unterageri to Zug
A delightfully scenic stage in the heart of the Zug region. Over upland moors, past countless cherry trees (Zuger kirsch cake!), the vantage point at the Brunegg Alp restaurant and the pretty St. Verena Chapel, to the town of Zug.
For those that have the appropriate technology, please use the link for the gps file.
This should hopefully avoid people getting lost once we separate due to different running speeds. I will also bring along copies of the map so you know where to go.
Plan is to take the 8:12am train from Zurich HB arriving at Einsieldeln at 8:57am, with a change in Wadenswil, and start running shortly after. We meet under the angel at 8:00am sharp and move to the train shortly after, tickets in hand.
Plan to finish the run at around 3.5 hours, maybe 4, hopefully!
Essential equipment to bring with you:
• Trail running shoes
• Mobile / cell-phone (switched on at all times)
• Insulation blanket (it can be very cold if you get wet and have to stop due to injury)
• Water-proof jacket in case it rains
• A warm long sleeved layer in case it gets cold
• Water and nutrition (gels, bars, etc) to keep you going for 3-4 hours running (includes safety margin in case of delays)
If weather looks horrible i may cancel the event. It´s no fun running in the rain!!
I hope to organize more of these runs over the next few months in preparation for some summer running i have planned. Please let me know if you are interested in these kind of activities in the future and i would be very pleased to hear of suggestions for routes. If you have a run/route you particularly like the look of with hopefully a gpx file that i can upload please let me know.
