Hiking around Sils

  • May 1, 2014 · 6:00 AM

In order to get some sun (the weather forecast for Thursday is between 30 and 50% sunshine), we need to get a bit further into Switzerland. Nevertheless I prefer some sun above cloudy/rainy weather.

We will take the train from zurich hb at 6.37 am arrival chur 7.52 am, departing chur 7.58 arrival st moritz 9.58 am, departing st moritz 10.08 arrival silvaplana posta 10.26am.

Here we start walking along the Silvaplana sea towards Sils/Seglis Maria. In Sils we can have a coffee and then we hike towards Vauglia,  Ca d' Starnam (2200 m), Alp da Segl (2100 meters), Crasta and back to Sils. Total hike is 16 kilometers and 500 meters ascent and about 5-6 hours depending on speed, the number of stops etc. At the end of the hike we can walk around in the tiny village of Sils, which has a museum dedicated to Nietsche.

We will walk beside the road leading to the Val Fex, past the Hotel Waldhaus, to Vaüglia. Here you turn right, away from the road and through a primeval forest. The hiking trail takes you past an upland moor, in front of Alp Petpreier, and on to the Muott'Ota ridge, from where you can enjoy a superb view over Lake Sils and of the imposing Piz da la Margna.

IMPORTANT

* The organizer is not responsible for any bodily injury or other accidents that might happen during the hike. By signing up on this activity, the participants agree that the organizer will not be held responsible in any way. Although the hike is not complicated, it is each individual responsibility to ensure that they can do the hike and check out the trail.

* To bring along : hiking boots, rain gear, water, snack, lunch ( I suggest we take lunch on the trails), smile, positive attitude, suncream, towel, swimming gear (for the brave)

* In case there is lots of rain, storm or foggy etc. then of course this hike does not take place

* Reservations will be made on buses and trains - in case however we as a group do not show up or change the hours, I as organizer get charged. The hours of trains and buses needs to be confirmed at least 3 working days in advance, any changes after that SBB cannot deal with. Furthermore it is not nice to reserve a large amounts of spaces if  only a fraction show up, so therefore please adapt your status in real time. For no shows or changes within 24 hours before the start of the hike, a 10 CHF cancellation fee will be charged.

Great sunny day- was surprised about the amount of snow still available. Apologize for the hike become a "snow"-hike, even the ski slopes still looked good.

Typically we meet either 15 min before departure (around 6.20 am) but given the time of the day, it is also OK if you go directly to the respective platform of the train and go the wagon in front of the train where on the outside windows a meet up sign should be present. Everybody need to buy their own tickets.

Hi Patrik, I´ve just jointed this meetup. Is it all right, that I meet you directly at Silvaplana posta at 10.26 am?

    April 28

    • Patrick

Dear Marina - of course this is alright. In case you are coming by car, please calculate in traffic jams and other eventualities since as you can imagine, it is more difficult to have a whole group waiting for 1 person, so I prefer that this person rather comes earlier or at the latest at the same time as the Group.

if u don't have a GA, it's worth getting a daily pass for CHF71 or if you are planning to do more long trips a pack of six for a price of five (valid 4 years)

Or at your city hall a GA day pay is usually between 40-45CHF (reserve it in advance) https://www.tageskarte...
