Hiking Weekend around St Moritz

Hello

Back to St Moritz the initial plan!

From the 5 rooms I have limited the reservation to 3 rooms. I go today to do the group reservation for the train.

----------------------------------------------

Hiking around St Moritz

This will be a 2-days hike, each of medium difficulty. St Moritz is just a hiking paradise. The posh town itself is just below the ski resort, a very good place in Winter.

Train

7.07 - 8.11 Zurich HB - Landquart
8.20 - 10.19 Landquart - St Moritz

Accommodation: we will be in 4-people rooms. Please inform if you have special requirements. 5 rooms are now reserved, this will be adapted according to the number of participants.

Price:

train ticket + night in Youth Swiss Hostel (36) + dinner 18.5 + 15 (management fee). If you do not have the Swiss Youth Hostel membership there is 6.- on top.

I kindly ask you to do a pre-payment of 75, only 70 if you have a Swiss Hostel member card. My bank details will be confirmed once you are registered: Postkonto [masked]
Please indicate your name on the transaction.
Refund policy: Half will be refunded in case of cancellation, Full refund if you provide someone to replace you.

Not to forget: Water, suncream, sturdy shoes, cap/hat, food, smile

Luggage: It is better if you can carry all you need in your backpack. It is possible to leave luggage in the Hostel, but it's a long walk from and to the train station. There are though lockers at the train station if you want to leave it here.

Best regards,

Guillaume

    Can I still join?

    July 24

  • Eve

@Guillaume : When we get to St Moritz on Saturday morning, will it be possible to leave our backpack at the train station or even at the hostel before we start hiking ? It would be great to only carry a day pack during the hike.

    July 23

    • Guillaume

There are lockers at the train station. It can be that they are not available. I can check if there is a service to leave luggage and if they will be open when we come back from the hike

      July 23

  • Eve

Great that the weather cooperated for the weekend :)

Hi Guillaume, I have been following the building of the new youth hostel (with swimming pool etc.) but on the website it keeps saying official opening at 05 sept 2014. Possibly my information is wrong, but just thought I raise this to avoid any misunderstandings or disappointments.

    • Guillaume

Hello, thanks a lot. This should have been suspicious, the green green GREEN calendar, compared to the one of Zermatt where we should have been spread over several shared rooms. Saas Fee stays the place for this weekend.

      July 23

  • Guillaume

Hello hello! after a couple hours checking and callings huts, I arrived this option, in Saas Fee:

    First day:
7.02 - 9.53 ZH HB - Gspon, including one trip in cable car
Gspon to Saas Fee, a 6 hours hike and arrival to the whole new youth hostel of Saas Fee.
Then a round trip hike the next day, easier (9km and 800 up).
It would cost around 10.- more because this hostel is more expensive than in St Moritz, also much more comfortable (nicer bedrooms, swimming pool, Wellness on 1,900 m2 with Finnish sauna, etc, etc.)

    July 22

    • Didier

Hi Guillaume, i follow also in Saas Fee. Didier

      July 22

  • Matthias S

Hi Guillaume, ok - I adopted my plans. If anyone wants to join, here's my currently planned bike iterary (subject to change due to weather etc.):
Wednesday: Zürich - Wassen (just before Gotthard)
Thursday: Wassen - Locarno (via Gotthard Pass)
Friday: Locarno - Visp (via Domodossola and Simplon Pass)
    Saturday + Sunday: Hiking

Maybe :-) : Biking back to Zürich Monday, Tuesday, (Wednesday). Potentially via Grimselpass, Luzern, ...

  • Matthias S

Hi Guillaume, no risk - no fun. The weather will remain "changeable" with a postitive outlook. I've decided to cycle to St.Moritz via Andermatt. To keep this reasonable, I will start on Wednesday already. So 3 days cycling. Let me know, if St. Moritz is confirmed as a Meet-up destination and I will transfer you money :-)

    July 22

    • Guillaume

      July 22

  • Wolfgang L

What about confirmation of your account?

    July 22

    • Guillaume

Hi Wolfgang, wir kennen uns schon seit langem, ich vertraue dir natürlich. Erledigen wir's einfach am Samstag.

      1 · July 22

  • Guillaume

Hello! The weather is very difficult to plan. The event will take place though! I am checking other places, such as Zermatt or Saas Fee, where the weather will be better, and also are great places to hike around!

    Guillaume

    July 22

  • Wolfgang L

I will take the train from Winterthur to St. Moritz and be picked up by your train in Ziegelbrücke propably. Beside two or three of you are interested to go there by car, then I would do it and offer the free spots. Anyone interested out there? Could pick you up at Duebendorf Station.

    July 22

  • Didier

Hi Guillaume, is it still possible to join the hike? Should I pay on the post Konto mentioned?
    Enjoy the WE Didier

    July 19

  • Guillaume

Great tip from Melanie! Good timing, there will be a Jazz festival, with free concerts. This is a good option for Sunday, (just for hikers which want to take it a bit easier on Sunday :)

    1 · July 18

  • Guillaume

OK for the first day we will hike up Piz Nair from St Moritz. It's an excellent one, with gorgeous views.

Second day: more direction Silvaplana, partly in the woods, with later views over the lakes.

  • Natalia P.

Let's stay in the mountain hut for the night!!!
