8-9h hike across the one-of-a-kind MACUN National Park/lakes with highest hiking point 3.000 meters.

If you wish to join, just get yourself on the waiting list and I switch you in.

Meetup under the Angel ZH-HB at 06:20
ZH/HB at 06:37 to Landquart (07:41)-(07:49) to Sagliains (08:53)-(08:56) to Zernez (09:06) (train to Pontresina)

Way back to HB: XX:55

Route:
•Start: Zernez, immediately at 09:10 in order not to loose time.
•End: Lavin •highest hiking point: Munt Baseglia (2945m)
long hike upwards (ca. 4-5h) from Zernez, medium difficult ascent
•Additional option depending on time and weather of 30 minutes walk around the lake area of Macun (very recommendable)
•Hiking down (ca. 3-4h) pretty steep scree slopes!

Activity planned in case of bad weather: hike can be cancelled or modified as the ascend is not possible during heavy rain, wind or snow (you can believe me).

Technical Data:
Height difference: ca. 1500m, hiking time: ca. 8h (without the "30 minutes round Macun"), quite good condition necessary, hiking sticks recommended, excellent chance to "meetup" with rare capricorns...

IMPORTANT
* The organizer is not responsible for any bodily injury or other accidents that might happen during the hike. By signing up on this activity, the participants agree that the organizer will not be held responsible in any way. Although the hike is not complicated, it is each individual responsibility to ensure that they can do the hike and check out the trail.
* To bring along : hiking boots(!), rain gear, water (minimum 1 liter bottle, water supply is limited), snack, lunch (lunch will be taken on the trails), camera, smile, positive attitude, sun cream, gloves, protection against wind and a pullover.
* In case there is lots of rain, storm etc. then of course, due to security reasons, this hike does not take place. In such a case we will walk from Zernez to Lavin alongside the River Inn and stay in the lowland area.

FYI: Hi all, since I could not see any snow in any of the forecasts I usually consult, I gave this a go and the weather turned out to be rather nice. There was no rain or snow anywhere to be seen. It was not enirely sunny either to be honest but perfect hiking weather as far as I am concerned... There were two snowfields on the way down but they are there all year long (remember them from two years ago) - easy to walk/slide down.

Hi Marlon, I am just wondering how reliable the weather forecast of viewweather.com is. Did you have good matches between predicted and observed weather in the past ?

due to the weather situation (rain&snow) I decided to cancel this hike. Marlon.

If there is snow within the upper climbing section (see 3rd picture) it would end up in a unforgettable trip. It is not an easy walk into the hills...so I decided not to take this special risk and someone of my group will slip out.

Of course, understood! Let's quickly think of another possibility?! :-)

    actual weather "predictions":

today it shows minus 5 to minus 2 deg on the top. Last week and present week there was and will be (new) snow. SAT we will face a 50% rain/ snow probability, temperatures on top +3 max. We will keep oberserving the issue...

This hike is recognized as one of the more spectacular ones. So would be interest to go, unfortunately I am improving the c into C of culture by combining a hike with a museum visit the same day at another place on another meet up hike.

Hi Marlon, just wanted to ask how difficult is the decent? I am fit through lot's of sport, but when one isn't used to using the antagonistic muscles in your legs through a decent it might become very tedious
