Charity Hike with donations: Elm to Flims over the Segnespass T3

Happy Hikers, As the weather will be quite nice this weekend I would love to have an other hike that I was looking forward to do since a while.

Starting point: Elm Station
Ending point: Flims Dorf (the end time is just an estimate, but it depends how quick people hike).

Difficulty: T3 (http://www.hikr.org/post2984.html)
Hiking time: full version 9h

Height gain: 1700 m

Height loss: 1550 m

We take the following trains:

Zürich HB pl. 6 8:43 direction Linthal

Schwanden GL 9:56 Bus 541 direction Elm Sportbahnen.

Route: Elm Station - Tschingelbahn (few people could take the gondola, but it´s small and can´t take a bigger group it´s 400 m height gain, but it´s also worth to go through the Tschingelschlucht). - Segnaspass (where you see Martinsloch - since 2008 on the UNESCO list http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martinsloch) Who is tired can now go left direction Cassonsgrat and the the gondola down to Flims (last one at about 5:00 pm). We follow the signs direction Segnashütte (better view of Martinsloch) and direct to Narausbahn (last gondola at 5:00 pm as well). I intend to go down to Flims from there. The faster once, who reach Naraus before 5:00 pm can take the gondola down.

Bring with you:

- smile, proper shoes, change of cloth of rain jacket, sun screen, enough water, walking poles.

I´m now also involved in a charity project and this will be also the way for me to support it. We are building childcare facilities in South Africa and trying to collect funds for the construction side. I will collect money (the amount is up to you) in the train for this project. Here is the official website. https://www.jam-schweiz.org/wie-mithelfen/einsaetze-in-suedafrika/kindertagesstaette-neo.html (unfortunately only in German). If you would like to hear more I would love to talk about JAM or our project during the hike.

    Hi,
I put all my original Picture on my dropbox and let those there for at least the next to months. After that, I am going to delete it, when I need space again.

If you did not get an Invitation from [masked] of the dropbox folder, so I probably don’t have your email address. Please send me an Email, quoting the Meetup Hike you looking for. So if you like some of this pictures, so feel free to download and if there is a personal picture from you, which you don’t like, so let me know, that I can take it away as soon as possible.

Hi Guys, It´s already tomorrow. Just a reminder that this is a charity hike. I would love everyone who attends to donate (what you want/can) to the project I´m working on: https://www.jam-schweiz.org/wie-mithelfen/einsaetze-in-suedafrika/kindertagesstaette-neo.html You can click on "online spenden" below the donation status - remember to ad that it´s for the NEO project. Or you can donate the money to me in Cash (I will have the JAM bowl with me). Ciao

Hey, I would like to join but this is my first time in this group. So I'm guessing the thing goes like: we meet at the the platform at 8:15 right? You mountain people should be a recognizable group. Also, is is possible to buy a ticket including the train and the bus? (the whole trip). Thank! Looking forward to meet you all.

Hi Ola. I ll go to another event this week end. Looking forward to a shorter hike and to meet you. Regarding the donation, you may want to have a look at donatey.com and place your Campaign there. I ll be surely the first to make a donation once you are in Donatey. In the mean time we should meet, I cannot wait to donate and to be part of it :-).

Hi Ola. I just joined and I am so excited to go hiking with all of you, but I am also looking for a less challenging hiking :-). When do I need to let you know if I don't join? I surely want to donate to the childcare.

    September 13

    • Ola

Hi Pauline, that´s so nice of you.. each CHF counts. I will try to organize an easier hike in October too, so we can chat about the children and the project. And here is the link just in case. My project was called NEO: https://www.jam-schwei...

      September 24

  • Pauline

Hi Ola, I will not join as it would be just to much for me. I hiked the Alpanachstad to Pilatus (I made it quite ok as we slower were not left behind :-)) organised by Gertjean. If anyone is interested in hiking just a part of it though I 'll be glad to join, please let me know.
It would be great to meet you and chat about the childcare in South Africa.

    September 17

    • Ola

Hi Pauline, I´m a slow hiker myself. That´s why I will be walking at the end anyway :). At the beginning of the hike there is a small Gondola (only few people can use it as it´s too small to carry us all). So you could shorten the hike a bit, but than you can´t wait for us you just need to continue. I´m more than happy to tell you all about the project. It was an amazing experience. And the most important we could see the immediate and a long term impact.

      September 24

  • Ola

Hi Guys, I just came back from Africa where we were working on this project. We are still lacking[masked] CHF to finish it. Hope you guys will help me a bit :). Now I will be responsive. I checked the weather ant it will be very nice. I need to call Postauto to be sure we all have space in the Bus, that´s why please update your RSVP latest by tomorrow noon accordingly :) See you on Saturday

  • Gerald

Hi Ola. Sounds perfect, but I am wondering about the timing: we only get going/walking at 10-11-ish and the full hike is said to be 9 hrs. But the last cable car down is at 5-ish ... where did I miss the point?

    1 · August 31

    • Ola

Hi Gerald. You only miss the fact that we are going down, not using the cable car because of the time. That's why such a big descend and that's why 9h. Some people can use the cable car going up. But it's a small one and not the whole group can use it. Sorry for the confusion.

      September 1

    • Gerald

Hi Ola. Ok, so the 9hrs would be w/o the cablecar & with the time is less... Thanks! :-)

      September 1

  • Dian A.

Hi Ola, I'd really like to go but unsure re/ difficulties. How is the track like compared to Mt Saentis hike? And with the descent, is it secured with wire cables?

    1 · August 21

    • Dian A.

Thanks Michael. Did you go down from Cassonsgrat or the other one? ( the one that starts with N). Did you take the cable car up or hike at the beginning? And how long was it in total?

      August 24

    • Michael M.

We did not take any cable car at all - we went up straight from Elm Station and only finished hiking at Flims dorf. We did not use any cable car, neither from Cassonsgrat nor from Alpe Naraus. The total hike including 40 mins break at the Mountain lodge next to Segnespass was about 7 hours 20 minutes. I would say this is a very sportive speed and yet we probably did a much longer descent as well along the "Weg des Wassers" which is very nice though. The shortest nominal time (hiking only without breaks) from Elm to Flims according to the signs is 5:15 from Elm to Segnespass and 3:30 from Segnespass to Flims.

Hi Guys, sorry, have to reschedule due to the weather forecast. There are thunderstorms in the afternoon and I don't want to risc it :(

    August 22

    • Ola

I'm using weather pro. It's very accurate. I see the thunderstorms starting from 2. Since I'm really afraid of thunders, sorry I'm not riscing :(

      August 22

    • Dian A.

Yes I saw thunderstorms in forecast for Segnaspass too. See you in few weeks. Hope the weather is good then

      1 · August 22

  • Gabi

Hi Ola, I think I'd prefer to take the cable car in elm as I think going up 1700m might be a bit much for me.

    August 19

    • Ola

Hi Gabi, here is the schedule. http://www.tschinglen... we arrive in Elm Station at 10:16. You will probably take the gondola at 12:50. We should arrive at the other end at 12:00. I will print out the map so people can follow us. And we should be visible on the route from below as well. Just keep in mind that the gondola is quite small. Not many people can fit in one.

      August 19
