The idea would to go skiing for the weekend in Verbier, truly one of the best skiing areas in Switzerland.
There are sufficient slopes for beginners, intermediate and advanced skiers (see picture below).
We would be staying at a mountain hut at 2500 meters altitude (see picture attached) which allows to sit down on the terrasse till 5.30 or 6pm with a glass of wine and have great views of the sun going down as well as sunrise in the morning.
Please note that in the immediate vicinity there is nothing else than snow, i.e. no bars, no discos, supermarkets or Mc Donalds. We are in the mountains here. The closest hut/restaurant is a 15 minute walk, approx. 200 meters down. It is a unique experience to stay overnight at a mountain hut. Given that it is that high in the mountains, it means that you can sleep out. The ski station is Verbier opens around 9am and the big chair lift going up to the top of the mountain opens at 9.15 am. From our hut, we put on the skis and in 5 minutes we are at entrance of Mont Fort skiing area.
There are rooms for 2 persons, 4 persons and larger rooms so in principle there is something for everyone.
I like to secure some places for our group and as always in Switzerland they prefer a coordinated group booking rather than getting phone calls from lots of individuals. Although there are no specific dates by when I need to make a booking, clearly the hut is sought after by various groups and hence when other groups makes bookings and the hut gets fuller, the flexibility I have to add on additional spots becomes limited. Therefore I strongly suggest that in case you are interested you secure your spot, make a payment and if it turns out later that you can-t make it, there will highly likely be other people taking over your spot and/or I can discuss refund with the owner.
Prices are 60 swiss francs per person/night and include accommodation and breakfast. Dinner can be paid separately.
IMPORTANT : The mountain hut can be reached by either taking the big cable car (Montfort) and then ski down for about 10 minutes for an average skier or you can walk by foot to the hut for about 20 minutes. In case you want to take the cable car, then probably the last cable car goes somewhere around 4pm or 4.15 pm.
Given that it takes from Zurich to Verbier approx. 3,5 to 4 hours to get there, you either need to leave friday at lunch time, take all friday off or you take the very early train at 6am which will get at the bottom of the verbier valley around 10am and at the slopes around 10.30 am.
Please note on your booking whether you will join for friday evening only, saturday evening only or friday and saturday evening. With regards to transportation, please advise whether you will take a train on friday morning early hours, friday afternoon or saturday early hours so that I can advise SBB accordingly.
Looking forward to another great weekend of skiing.
Please note that everyone is responsible for their own acts. It is up to each individual to take out appropriate insurance (off-piste, rescue, hospitality, third -party liability etc.) and by no means this organizer can be held responsible in any way for organizing this ski-weekend.
