New Meetup: Hiking up the Säntis - Panoramic View from 2500 meters !

Announcing a new Meetup for Zurich Hike & Outdoor!

What: Hiking up the S?ntis - Panoramic View from 2500 meters !

When: August 31,[masked]:15 AM

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Meetup Description: This is it ! The ultimate alpine challenge of the summer for the utterly unafraid Meetup hiker. The S?ntis is a spectacular 2500-m Mountain located in the north-eastern corner of Switzerland. It is a landmark peak which provides a panoramic view which extends far across the Swiss border into Austria, Liechtenstein and Germany. You'll have sore muscles from the climb for the rest of the week but everyone who's been up there says you've got to have been up there at least once if you're serious about Switzerland !

Climbing the S?ntis is a serious uphill hike which goes up 1625m, which is quite something. However, anyone with average to good condition can do it, and for the way down we're taking the cable car. Just be aware that it's at the upper end of the scale of our generally more easy-going Meetup hikes, and proper hiking or trekking footwear is a must. I have planned the trip so we have plenty of time to take some breaks in between, allowing for about 6 hours to get to the top (the hiking guides list this hike around 5 hours, not including breaks).

In order to have enough time for the whole trip we need to start earlier than usual, so please forgive me for the 7:39 train !. Believe me, I hate getting up early with a passion, but we should start to hit the trail around 10 a.m. or we will arrive at the top quite late and won't have any time to enjoy the view and relax at the top.

Let's meet around 7:20 under the weird angel. We'll start walking to the platform at 7:30
Here's my mobile number in case your morning timing is so tight that you just barely manage to hop onto the train as it leaves:

Here's our train schedule for getting to Wasserauen where we start the hike:
Z?rich HB [masked] ab 07:39 IC 709
Gossau SG Gossau SG an 08:43 3
Gossau SG Gossau SG ab 08:47 11/12 R 325
Wasserauen an 09:41

Buy a one-way ticket for Z?RICH HB - WASSERAUEN (via GOSSAU)

Don't buy a return ticket because we're going back from a different place (Schw?galp, that's where the cable car brings us on the way down).

Essentials for this hike:
* water 1.5 liters
* a lunch sandwich and snacks for in between
* some extra layers of clothing to put on at the top (fleece sweater and wind breaker jacket)

Hope to see you there !
