Announcing a new Meetup for Zurich Hike & Outdoor!
When: September 19,[masked]:30 AM
The train leaves at 7.32 am so I suggest we meet at 7.15 am at the usual spot (=the big weird angel like Sven calls it)
Proposed itinerary is Kandersteg - Gemmipass - Leukerbad, total walking time 6 h 50 min or 5hours 10 minutes depending or not whether the descent is done by foot or cable-car.
The hike is the most popular pass route from the Bernese Oberland into the canton Valais. Apart from the steep descent from the top of the Gemmi pass to Leukerbad, this is a very pleasant, easy hike, providing impressive panoramas of the Valais Alps and a unique view from the top of the Gemmi Pass. A refreshing dip in one of Leukerbad's warm spring soothes away all signs of fatique. Moutain hike from the Gemmi Pass.
The route is Kandersteg (1176 meters)-> Eggeschwand(1194 meters)-> Stock (1834 meters)-> Spittelmatte (1875 meters)-> Kantonsgrenze Bern/Wallies (1901 meters)-> Schwarenbach (2060meters)-> Gemmipass (2314 meters)-> Leukerbad (1401 meters). As you can see the hike goes mostly uphill (1000 meters approx.)
For those of you who do not like to do the descent, there is a cablecar who takes you down from Gemmipass to Leukerbad. In such case the walk does not take 6hours and 50 minutes, but only 5hours and 10 minutes. There is a restaurant at Schwarenbach after 4 hours hiking.
Zurich Hb: 7.32 am-> 8.27 Bern
Bern (departure): 8.40 am-> 9.41 am
We will start walking around 10 am so we should arrive at gemmipass around 16 hours or 16 hours 30 minutes, if we take a 50 minutes- 1 hour break for lunch time.
To bring along:
* sturdy shoes
* rain jacket
* picknick (in case the restaurant along the way would be closed )
* swimming gear
* different layers of clothing
Leukerbad is known for its famous thermal baths so possible we should/could try them before heading to Zurich HB.
There is a train leaving Leukerbad at 18.12 arriving zurich HB 20.28 or there is a train leaving 19.12 arriving 21.28 zurich HB.
