The Castle

Imprints of time – 800 years of life at Kyburg

Have you ever wondered what it was like to be invited to a medieval banquet, what dishes the guests of Mrs. Landvogt have been served? Or what happened to the thief Johannes Grün, or Cleophea Isler, who was accused of murdering her newborn child? Have you ever   asked yourself what a knight woreunderneath his armour?
How old and genuine the “Iron Maiden” really is or what clothes the mayor of Zurich took along
on his trip to Paris? If so, visit the new Museum Kyburg Castle.
Here, you will find out all about
the private and public life of the people of Kyburg over a period of 800 years — in the fortress, the castle and the countryside. You can take part in a court of justice, look around the cellar as well as the attic. Your are the Landvogt’s guest at his great autumnal feast, the “Grosse Brauch” or you try out your strength on a medieval hoisting grippers – or you test your sense of smelling and try to find out which spices there are to discover.   All this and even more you will find on your discovery tour through Kyburg Castle.

After the kyburg we hike over Wildpark Bruderhaus, Eschenbergturm to Winterthur:

Wild Park Bruderhaus:

On the Eschenberg the Bruderhaus Wildlife Park lies idyllically nestled in the woods. Here you can observe around 80 wild animals at close range. With its Przewalski horses, bison and Vietnamese Sika Deer the wildlife park is involved in international breeding programmes, aimed at preserving these species, which are extinct in the wild, and resettling them in their original habitats. Thanks to sponsorship money and donations, wolves have recently joined the Bruderhaus: the 13 wolves have enough space to rear offspring in a 12'000 square metre enclosure.

hike to Eschenbergturm

In the centre of the Eschenbergwald (Eschenberg Woods) the Eschenbergturm soars 30 metres into the sky. Those walkers, who do not suffer from vertigo, let their eyes roam into the distance from up here. During fine weather you can see as far as the Alps and the Black Forest.

Hi Gian-Andrea, how long is the hike from Kyburg to Tierpark Bruderhaus? I need to get back to ZH earlier and have seen that the last bus from Tierhaus Bruderhaus leaves at 17:30.

    It seems very interesting !

    Just a technical question.
Do we need necessarily trekking shoes for this or just "normal" shoes are enough?

    Thank you
