STITCHING RETREAT!

Ladies, I'm pleased to announce our first knitting/crocheting/sewing/tatting retreat! Join us from 11am October 5 to 4pm October 6 for an action-packed weekend right on the Greifensee! We'll have the youth hostel at Fällanden for us alone (check this link for pictures of the house). We've got 4 rooms with 10 beds each, a double bedroom, and a 4-bed room. There's a giant backyard with a beautiful patio and a canoe for you adventurous crafters. And for the musical among us, there's a piano. We're also going to organize a projector and DVDs so that we can have a movie night, if desired. Additionally, there's a volleyball net, ping pong and fussball tables, a raft for the lake, fire pit.... tons of activities to fill in the gaps between crafting!

We will cook for ourselves. This worked wonderfully on our trip to the Rigi! When you RSVP, you can comment on which food/dish you'd like to contribute so that we can coordinate. We'll likely need a few people to contribute to Saturday apero, an afternoon snack, marshmallows for toasting, Saturday dinner, Sunday breakfast and perhaps lunch.

We will have some mini-workshops throughout the weekend. Some of these include:

• Blocking Your Project - How and Why;

• All About Yarns! - a tutorial on different fibers and weights and how to substitute;

• Magic Loop demonstration;

• Intro to Ravelry - a course on using one of the best resources for knitters and crocheters!

We'll also do some yarn swapping/stash selling, and if there is interest, we can also make a swap of books and/or tools (e.g. hooks, needles). And of course, bring any works-in-progress you want! As with all of our meetups, if you're interested in learning to knit/crochet, just bring yarn and some hooks/needles and we'll help you to get started!

If you have any requests for topics or have something interesting to share with the group (tatting, for example!) then leave a comment below or contact Lindsay ([masked]) directly.

So, let's get to the price: The price will be 40 CHF per person for the whole retreat. This is payable to Sabrina BEFORE the knitting retreat. (When you RSVP, I'll contact you with the payment information.) Dayguests are welcome. Because we need to pay the rent for the house anyway (and we all use the facilities) dayguests pay 20CHF per day. To keep it organised, give a comment below (not RSVP) that you will be a dayguest and for which day.

Some final notes: We'll be responsible for cleaning up before we leave. Towels are not provided so please bring your own. It is best if you have a sleeping bag to bring, though there are linens for about 10 of us.

I hope I've covered the basics. If you have questions or comments, please leave a comment on the event page. I'm very excited for our first retreat!!

The sign up will be closed by the 22th of september. So hurry up and join us for this nice retreat!

Hi Sabrina, thank you for your offer, it is not necessary to pick me up somehow, I looked at SBB Timeschedule, I have good Trainconnection, as Fällanden has no railway station I will leave train in stettbach and come from there by bus directly to the hostel..I saw that there is not a lot of foodstuff for breakfast on sunday..is it ok if I bring 2 big "cabled"bread;)? what is about coffee? shall I bring some instant coffee as well and cream?

    September 25, 2013

    • vesna

Hi Sabrina, sorry for my late answer..I'll bring coffee and cream, do you need something else? I looked in my email-entry, could not find the account information! Could you mail your bankaccount-information again, so I could do the payment before the retreat? thank you

I will be coming by car so will bring some potatoes. There is a bus that goes past the youth hostel, the 743 from Stettbach to Maur.

Jana, there is a busstop literarely just outside the hostel.

      September 25, 2013

....OK as a not so organised drifter I will bring stuff. Some Gin and Tonic, Wine and general stuff (maybe cakes, marshmallows, nibbles and dips)...I will have a think and pack a cool bag - unless there is anything you would like me to bring. Looking forward to seeing you all and I have put the money in the account.

Hi There, I have been traveling a lot these days so I have missed Sept 22 but I have been in contact with Lindsay before so hope it still works for me. I am on gluten free diet so I can contribute with some snacks and bread (perhaps at least Claudia will appreciate). Same time I am fine to bring some vegetables and make warm autumn salad. Q: is there possibility to buy potato around? Since I will travel public transportation and will carry all other stuff it would be handy.
I have sleeping bag, lot of projects to share & love fire pots and piano (I can't play). So looking forward to meet you all. And ready to pay my contribution immediately.

As I would like to start with my next project (mitts) on the retreat, I can show you swatching in the round, knitting two mitts at the same time (which includes magic loop) and fair isle knitting, if anybody is interested in...

Hi, I am not on the list, of who's brings what. I would like to bring a potato salad or Gratin Dauphinois and gluten free cookies for snacks ;)

    September 21, 2013

  • Sarah M.

Hiya, you missed me on the food list! Why don't I bring a couple of big salads, how about an avocado/tomato/mozzarella one and a green salad? Also maybe a quiche? Then it can be lunch, dinner, snack... Whichever. Sarah.

    September 21, 2013

  • Sabrina

Ladies, I've added the info for dayguests and who brings what to the description.
For dinner there are several ideas. Let's organise that spontaneous, depending on the weather: if it's nice we can cook something outside at the fireplace - if not let's prepare something in the kitchen.

    September 17, 2013

    • Claudia Pinto P.

Thanks Lindsay! I will wait then ;)

      September 17, 2013

    • Kathrin

you've overseen me when you wrote the who-brings-what list. I'll bring a cake or two and should the weather be good for sitting outside and having a fire I'll bring dough for "Schlangenbrot"

Hi. I have a dayguest (Quingyian) for Saturday, if it is still possible. She is looking forward to joining the group and starting knitting. Maybe she can prepare some typical Chinese meal (I will ask her and let you know) :)

    September 21, 2013

  • Beatrice

Hello, I think I will just come along for the Saturday if that's ok!

    September 17, 2013

    • Lindsay F.

That will be fine, Beatrice! Glad you can join us :)

      September 19, 2013

  • Rachel W

I can only come on Saturday unfortunately, due to my husband having made other plans. I will be there from approx 11-4 and will bring some sweet and some savoury scones that would work for either a snack or starter. Since I'm driving I will also bring my small collection of stitching/crafting books and magazines for anyone wants to browse or borrow. Also if there is anyone who is good at quilting and would be willing to give me a quick and simple demonstration please let me know and I'll bring my sewing machine and some fabric!

    September 7, 2013

  • Kathrin

As there is no camping involved - which I hate... - I'll also join.

Hm, to know what to bring along it would be good to know if we're cooking dinner or if we go for nibbles. Is there a possbibility for a campfire? Soup from the fire would be a nice idea if we could get one of these cookers for campfires.

I will bring a cake or two - or three, if we get a huge group ;-)

    September 5, 2013

    • Sabrina

I would suggest to cook Spaghetti with different sauces that everybody has something she likes (pesto, arrabiata, Bolognese etc.)

      1 · September 5, 2013

Any other ideas for dinner are also welcome :-)

      September 6, 2013

    1 · September 5, 2013

I'll bring some cupcakes and some "schinkegipfeli" its a ham croissant...and if you need more just tell me

    1 · September 5, 2013

  • Murielle D.

I'll bring crudités+dips, and wine for the apéro!

We should do a white elephant gift exchange. That would be awesome! :)

    1 · September 4, 2013

    • Sabrina

Dumb question: what's a "white elephant gift exchange"?

      September 5, 2013

    • Lindsay F.

It's basically a not-too-serious gift exchanging game. Lots of opportunity for laughs!
