Hey everyone, I'm sorry to be bailing out like this, but I have a schedule clash on Monday and will not be able to make it to this one. Carmen and other pretty good English speakers are going to be there though, and I'll see you all next time.

hey there carmen and ahoo, we met a few weeks ago at starbucks-central for a german table... I would be very much interested in taking part in an english table too; my only concern is the time and location... you see, I understand that starbucks doesn't need any reservation or such, but I still do believe that at 7pm many people would come off work and gladly enjoy a pint of beer/glass of wine/shot of schnaps/litre of panache. While any pub/bar in town wouldn't put any restriction on tea-drinkers, it is not quite so vice-versa. Besides, if you really want to learn Kinglish, there's no way you can do without beer! It's no joke, it's not about getting drunk together either (everybody can decide if going alcoholic or not), but it's might just be slightly more appealing...
'tis only my humble opinion and I'd like to hear it from other potential participants as well.
    your always faithful,
    s.

The location needs to be close to the HB, as apparently it's the one place that is easy to get to for just about everyone. I've heard from a lot of members that if the location were to move any further from HB, it simply won't make any sense for them to go through the commute at 7:00 PM on a week day [which by the way is the only possible time for our working crowd]. I myself am of the same opinion. Having canvassed the HB vicinity for a couple of months, I can tell you there aren't all that many possible locations for an event like this anyway.

Then there is the business policy issue. I've had a couple of quick chats with the staff at the Starbucks central, and at least so far they have had no issues with what we're doing. We pour in a huge crowd, we re-decorate their place, we stay for hours, and not all of us always buy something from them. I know from personal experience that this simply is not going to happen with a bar, restaurant, or any other kind of business. [continued...]

Then it's the matter of atmosphere. This is totally a personal thing, but I have been to language events in bars, and I'm simply not a fan. Good for a socializing event, not that good for an event that is awesome for socializing, but has "learning" also on the top of the goal list. And I mean really, actually, learning. So that's my 2¢. =) If anyone has knowledge of a place that meets all of the above conditions, and serves beers too, please let me know and I'll be more than happy to look into it.

      Cheers!
