GERMAN: All Levels [2 hours] from 19.00 to 21.00

Hi! Looking forward to our next German Meet-up! :-) if you are a native speaker, do not ignore this invitation and show up when ever possible to help our learners! :-) Thanks in advance for every support. Regards, Carmen

P.S.: Hey everyone, just a couple of notes:
- The location is Starbucks "Central".
- If you're planning on attending, please do us a favour and RSVP, so that we can know how many people to expect. [That being said, if you absolutely can't RSVP and would like to drop in on the last moment, just showing up works too. ;)]

Cheers,

A+

The meetup last night was great. But there was something that bothered me and because Ahoo encourages us to give feedback, I write this. I was bothered by a some people complaining. This behavior is annoying to the rest of us, and unfair too. If the weather hot, or our group is making noise, or you don't like german and sitting with people who struggle and try to learn bothers or tires you, none of these are on the organizers! Please stop complaining about things that organizers are not responsible for! You think organizing meetups for 40 or 50 people is easy? Have you seen how much work Ahoo has to do before and during the meetups? I don't know all of the organizers personally, but I hear they are all busy people. And I know that Ahoo is the busiest person I've ever known of, with a really unbelievable daily life! And they're spending all this time and energy organizing these fun helpful meetups for all of us. I think we should thank them instead of pointless complaining.

Hi there! Thanks for this feedback! I just want to add some thoughts. What you tell me here disappoints me somehow. Not really for myself but for all the others who are helping (to some extent much more than I do). I'm actually the organizer and founder of this group. As I have set up this, my intention was to help foreigners to feel comfortable in Switzerland and to give them an easy and free of charge (!) opportunity to learn German. It really takes an effort to organize all this meet-ups and I'm so glad that I have now several German speakers in the group who help out to 'teach' German.

. Unfortunately, I haven't met all of them yet. But I really want to say thank you!!! Especially I thank Ahoo as the group woulnd't be the way it is now, if she wouldn't be part of it. I think this group is great and we are very aware that it is not perfect. But what do people expect? It's all about being together and improve German in a relaxed atmosphere (not classroom!). If you checked it out once and don't like it, just don't come again or give us constructive feedback to make some changes. We try to improve, but it's really not easy. I can not attend every meet-up as I don't work and live in Zurich. Nevertheless, do I try to come as much as possible as it makes me really happy to see how this group develops! Therefore, I'm always happy to hear new ideas (face to face or by email). But as you mentioned, it's only a small amount of people who are complaining so I'm very happy the rest of you enjoys being part of this! Hope to see you soon on one of our next meet-ups! :-)

    Hello

I am a professional photographer and have the intention to take 100 portraits of people from 100 different nationalities who life in Zurich, but were not born there. In the world there are 195 nations and 173 nationalities are living just in Zurich. The reasons are so varied as life itself and everybody has his own unique story. Obviously one person can not represent a whole nation, but my idea is to show the diversity of people who contribute so much to the attractiveness and variety of Zurich. I will photograph you authentic with my empathy and experience. This could happen in my studio or somewhere outside in the city of Zurich.

I am very pleased if you like to be part of this project, representating your country. When i say i want to photograph someone, what it really means is that i’d like to know them.

So, for Maria and anybody else with an interest in our choice of Starbucks Central as a venue, after having the same dicsussion with so many people so many times, I finally went ahead and created a clarification thread in our forum for it so I can just simply refer to that from now on. So if you're interested in finding us a new venue or would like to know why we are at Central, please read:

Hi! I will come, sorry if I sound like a complaining person but sometimes I find this Starbucks extremely noisy and have real trouble to hear people, and to be heard...or maybe it is just that I am half deaf. Thanks a lot for organizing I am quite DESPERATE to practice some German!

    June 14, 2013

    • Maria

Yes, you are right that Starbucks is a very suitable place from many angles. And true that we are noisy. Mmm the room's acoustics perhaps does not favour having us and the music? One of us could try and ask them if they would mind lowering the volume...if you wish, I could try in my best diplomatic German ;-)).. Don't want to go on about it though :-). I really appreciate your organisation!

Hi Maria, I found the same problems on a Thursday night in The Fork and Bottle (another meetup group) in Brunau...I keep pointing their speakers in another direction... but last time we were outside in the garden and this solved all the problems with acoustics and speakers ;-)

      June 14, 2013

  • David

Looking forward to being there again. Starbucks may not be perfect but I think it's the best we can have for now and you have some very valid points Ahoo. We are a big group so we have our own noise and Starbucks has been very accommodating.
