GPUG 2.8: Building a Reactor in PHP

The reactor pattern allows you to build applications that are event driven and can handle thousands of concurrent connections while maintaining low resource usage. It's the pattern behind Ruby's EventMachine, Python's Twisted and Node.js. Our speaker this month is Chris Boden, a contributor to the React PHP project. React is a set of PHP libraries that allow you to build PHP applications that use the reactor pattern. He'll be talking about React as well as Ratchet, a web socket server he wrote that uses React and allows pub/sub messaging over web sockets.

The topic was fascinating, the demo was good. Despite not having his notes, the slides were well prepared so his narrative through the topic was easy to follow.

Hey Ian, people tend to arrive a little late and I always say a few announcements first so you'll probably miss about 10 minutes of the 'main event'. :)
