An Open, Round-The-Room Discussion on Accessibility

For the first meet-up of 2014, we are hosting a session that includes all members new and old.  At the January 29th meetup, hosted at Devlin Digital,  we are planning a moderated, open discussion on all things related to digital accessibility.

All A11yTO members in attendance will have a chance to share info, ask questions, or suggest topics for future meet-ups. So come on out and join the conversation, we want to hear from you.

I would like to express my appreciation to Devlin Digital for their leadership and outstanding efforts in promoting accessibility. This MeetUp has given a positive start to 2014, and encouragement to the many disabled persons seeking to pursue a meaningful career. I am available to lend support to any future MeetUp presentations.

From my perspective, the three take aways are:
    1. The need to raise the awareness of business benefits with the inclusion of accessibility design in website communications, in the operational business strategy.
    2. The need to raise the consciousness of business leaders of the importance of hiring and including disabled persons in the design and marketing of products and services, so as to expand their consumer market.
    3. The need for developer greater access to resources in accessibility design techniques, qualitied testers, remediation supports, and ongoing education, to ensure smarter solutions.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend so thank you for the summary. It sounds like there was a rich conversation. I would like to propose a forth area and that is Awareness and Education across all aspects of the design process from discovery to build and QA both within organizations and in Design programs.

Thanks to the organizers & Devlin Digital...fantastic meeting. It was wonderful to hear everyone's questions and suggestions. This is probably the most informative networking meeting I go to and still it has an informal friendly & fun vibe. Kudos to the organizers for creating this valuable venue.

Hoping to get a bit more than that...things that stood out. Monica said there was great energy, enthusiasm and ideas in the room. Hoping to hear about what some of the ideas and discussions were about. Things that stuck out in your mind for you. Or observations around accessibility that came out in the discussions.

Great energy, enthusiasm and ideas in the room. Glad I could be there to take it all in.

Thanks to all who came out last night. If last night was any indication, we're in for a great year! On a related note, if we didn't have time to get to your question last night, feel free to use this board to ask it and we can continue the conversation online. The next meet-up will be Feb 26, more info to follow in the coming weeks.

Hello A11yTO memebers.. We are looking forward to our first MeetUp of 2014 & it appears our members are as well due to the high interest level that's been expressed.

We kindly ask to review your participation & if your plans or availability has changed, please update your RSVP status so that we can free up spots for the almost 30 members on the waitlist.

    Thank you.

Being an ad-hoc, open discussion we'll not even have a mic. But maybe we'll try audio recording this time around.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
