Please bring your loaded pack if possible. This is a chance to find out how much weight you can carry and get your hiking legs in shape. I'll show everyone what I pack when we break for lunch, but I'm not a role model for packing light. I hope some more experienced backpackers will join and show us a better example :-)
Be sure to bring your lunch too. We'll hike for two or three hours, then find a flat area to sit and eat.
We're hiking the blue trail:
Note: this is posted on both MAC and AAAC
We'll hike counterclockwise, opposite the bike traffic (sorry, I don't know any trails this long that don't have mountain bikes). Watch out when we start up a hill. Whenever a mountain bike is about to hit us, yell BIKE! and step off trail to the right.
Everyone hikes at a different speed but let's not split up and get lost on the trail. I'll ask someone to volunteer as sweeper. About every half hour, or whenever we arrive at a trail intersection, please stop and take a water break until the sweeper arrives. Then we'll agree on which way to go and proceed. Don't get behind the sweeper.
You will need a recreation passport. The park entrance is on Kensington road, south of Grand River road. When you enter the park, take the first right, then take the second right. There will be a sign that says Trailhead Parking, that road leads to the large parking lot.
Please call if you're running late[masked]four-5187
And... if you finish this hike with your pack, you might be ready to do both of these!
