Celebrate Mackinac Trip

A great trip, we can carpool too. Relax on the beach, travel about 2 hours further and go to the Pictured Rocks, explore waterfalls, rent Kayaks / bikes, and so much more.

Choose to stay longer if you like too. We will be staying in St. Ignace (north of the Mackinac Bridge). It is about 2 hours further if you would like to go to the Pictured Rocks for the day.
30 minutes to Ecotours hiking, kayaking and biking. It is also about 1 hour to the Soo Locks.
You can stay and hike.
It is also close to the Sand Dunes on US-2 or Tahquamenon Falls Park.
It’s very close to the 365 stairs to climb Castle Rock.
If you like I have arranged a tentative schedule option to go to Mackinac Island too. There are no cars on the island, only bikes and carriages.

I am hoping that most of us will choose to stay at the lovely campground (instead of the hotel option) and I have been staying there since I was about 9 years old. It’s beautiful and most campsites are very close to the beach. All sites are surrounded by lots of trees too. Please don’t worry about wild animals (there’s no bears); you will only likely see wild swans and ducks. Some people have extra tents and equipment, so it will be a great time, especially if you have never camped before.

Prior to the trip on Tuesday, June 4 th, I will be having a Celebrate Mackinac Meetup Party in Ann Arbor (see the Ann Arbor Adventure Club Meetup Calendar for Details). It is welcome to all and we can also use the time to plan for the following weekend trip, meet your car pool partner or tent sharing partner if needed, etc.

It is the beginning of the week long Lilac Festival on Mackinac Island! You have the option of attending the Saturday activities on the island too. There will many extra events on the island and it should be covered with beautiful Lilac flowers too! It will amaze you how many lilacs there are on the island. if you are staying at the campground, then you may want to bring soap, towels, shampoo and any other items you like for the showers. There are indoor showers and rest rooms there. Bring a jacket and a cup or water bottle too.

I have to 'pass' on this trip. I still have not yet been farther north than Higgins Lake... but someday I'll get to Mackinac & more of U.P.

    June 5

  • Isabella L.

I plan to be on site # 54 and I have about a 10x10 tent, so if someone else also wants to put a tent there then feel free too (just save me a spot :) I plan to have about 4 to 9 people per site and I have reserved site numbers # 52 to # 56. It may be easier to park your car between the beach playground area and the duck pond, which is close (or there maybe enough room on your site to park however please leave room for other tents too). Thank you and see you soon!

    June 5

  • Isabella L.

Looks like it will be about 69 degrees high and 48 degrees at night. I like to layer clothes when I go up north as it is a little more windy on the boat ride (bring a jacket for the boat or night-time).
If you have games or a camp stove, sleeping bags and/or a blanket (I have a few extras), please bring that too.
NICE to see people arranging rides too. :)

I have some friends that are going to Macinac that weekend, too, to participate in a 10K Run/Walk that is held, I think, on Saturday. Wish I could go but I don't have the funds right now.

    March 31

    • Denise

My friends that are going up of the 10K race already have a package deal set up that they will be using. For me, I have some upcoming expenses over the next couple months so I don't think I'll be able to swing this as well. I've only been to Macinac Island once, 20+ years ago and would love to go again some day.

I'm very excited. I have not been to Macinac Island in years! I hope I'm not wiped out from my Manistee trip the weekend before but I just do not want to miss out on this opportunity! I will contact you towards the middle of April with payment since I just moved and am short on cash. Thank you for setting this up!
