A great trip, we can carpool too. Relax on the beach, travel about 2 hours further and go to the Pictured Rocks, explore waterfalls, rent Kayaks / bikes, and so much more.
Choose to stay longer if you like too. We will be staying in St. Ignace (north of the Mackinac Bridge). It is about 2 hours further if you would like to go to the Pictured Rocks for the day.
30 minutes to Ecotours hiking, kayaking and biking. It is also about 1 hour to the Soo Locks.
You can stay and hike.
It is also close to the Sand Dunes on US-2 or Tahquamenon Falls Park.
It’s very close to the 365 stairs to climb Castle Rock.
If you like I have arranged a tentative schedule option to go to Mackinac Island too. There are no cars on the island, only bikes and carriages.
I am hoping that most of us will choose to stay at the lovely campground (instead of the hotel option) and I have been staying there since I was about 9 years old. It’s beautiful and most campsites are very close to the beach. All sites are surrounded by lots of trees too. Please don’t worry about wild animals (there’s no bears); you will only likely see wild swans and ducks. Some people have extra tents and equipment, so it will be a great time, especially if you have never camped before.
Prior to the trip on Tuesday, June 4 th, I will be having a Celebrate Mackinac Meetup Party in Ann Arbor (see the Ann Arbor Adventure Club Meetup Calendar for Details). It is welcome to all and we can also use the time to plan for the following weekend trip, meet your car pool partner or tent sharing partner if needed, etc.
It is the beginning of the week long Lilac Festival on Mackinac Island! You have the option of attending the Saturday activities on the island too. There will many extra events on the island and it should be covered with beautiful Lilac flowers too! It will amaze you how many lilacs there are on the island.
