Moved this to the top: In order to go on this trip you must call (800)[masked] and add on to our group (Rocco, reservation # 29892, you'll need to pay the $142.80 at that time). We'll arrange carpooling when it gets closer and depending on when people will be arriving. We can also co-ordinate food so that we can cook as a group Friday and Saturday nights. Please contact me with any questions. Hope you can come!
It's that time of year again! I apologize for not posting this sooner but life has been hectic to say the least. If you aren't busy Memorial Day weekend, I strongly encourage you to join us on this trip, it's a blast every year!
The Lower New River Gorge is commonly referred to as ‘The Grand Canyon of the East’. This trip blends classic whitewater excitement with the elements of history and natural beauty to create a truly amazing adventure.
This unique experience features moderate to difficult rapids as a high volume of water constricts through the narrow gorge strewn with giant boulders. You’ll encounter huge holes, roller coaster waves and house-size rocks plus extras like “Jump Rock”, “Swimmer’s Rapid” and even ‘surfing’... West Virginia style! This trip is appropriate for beginners (age 12 and up), as well as experienced paddlers. The Lower New River alternates from Class II - V (mild - wild) rapids to pools, allowing paddlers a break between the action. It’s exciting, refreshing, invigorating and always unforgettable. You’ll even take out beneath the world famous New River Gorge Bridge on this trip.
We are booking the Memorial Day Madness Deal Cost is $142.80 per person including all taxes (same as last year) and includes:
1 Day Rafting (Sunday)
3 Nights camping Lite Breakfast each Morning Round-Trip River Shuttle Delicious Riverside Deli Lunch Complimentary Beverages (Beer) after Rafting Hot Showers Deluxe BBQ Dinner Cookout after Rafting
Also this place has a pool, hot tub, volleyball nets, bar, paintball course, and a clubhouse with wifi!
I posted the trip to start Saturday but please note that The Memorial Madness Trip is actually cheaper to book than doing a normal weekend trip and includes three nights of camping vs two. Even if you are only staying two nights it makes more sense to book at this rate.
Some of us are going to arrive Friday and will hopefully be going rock climbing nearby on Saturday but it is still up in the air. Unfortunately we do not have enough ropes or experienced climbers going to open the climbing portion of the trip up to the group in general at this time. However, if you are interested in climbing, please post a comment and your experience level and if you have your own ropes. If we get more people with experience and ropes more people can join us for climbing! Also there is an option to hire a guide which includes rope rental so if you're interested let me know!
A few of us have taken work off on Friday. It is a 7 hour drive from Ann Arbor so we will probably arrive around 6pm on Friday. You are welcome to arrive Friday and hang out at the campground on Saturday even if you aren't climbing. There is a paintball course that you can do or just enjoy the relaxation of the campground! Also some people in the past have used that opportunity to go hiking in the gorge and to visit the beautiful view at the New River Bridge!
If you're just joining us for rafting or can't come until Saturday, then plan to arrive on Saturday to camp overnight, raft on Sunday and return on Monday (Monday is Memorial Day).
