Hi all! I'm heading into Detroit for this one. Hope some of you might join me.
The Navin Field Grounds Crew is hosting a vintage baseball game that starts at 2pm at the site of the old Tiger Stadium. The event & food are free. All are welcome. They provide hot dogs, Faygo, & water (and sometimes other munchies).
You may also bring your own picnic and enjoy the game. There are limited picnic tables & benches, so bringing a picnic blanket, towel or lawn chair is recommended.
I usually bring a snack to pass like chips, brownies, donuts, or some other food. If you want to bring something to share that requires utensils or plates, please bring whatever is needed to eat it. (They also have a donation can to help maintain the field if you want to contribute to the experience, but not bring stuff.)
Vintage baseball: the players are dressed up old school and play with 1860 rules, which means no baseball mitts! A few of the guests sometimes dress up in period garb. That's fun to see, but a rarity. You may dress up too.
After the game a few of us usually play catch (with mitts) or practice batting. if there are enough people, maybe even a pick-up game. Frisbees, kickballs, soccer balls and anything else friendly are welcome. If you pick up after them & they are well behaved, pets are also allowed.
I hope to see you on Sunday!
