15 years of Lindy Hop experience jammed into a 5'2" container named Angela! Come learn the original form of Swing dancing made well known by Frankie Manning, Whitey's Lindy Hoppers, and the Savoy Ballroom.
This is a 3 week series. Registration includes 3 one-hour lessons, and at least 3 hours of practice and social dance space with live music. I say at least because if we have enough registrants or attendees to cover the extra rent, we'll add an extra hour of Jam Session! (Donations welcome!)
During the jam, students will be able to get feedback from the instructor, and practice with classmates.
No matter what level a dancer you are, this series is for you. We get into the foundations of the dance. The better the foundation the more advanced a dancer you get to become. Doesn't matter if you are building a new foundation as a new or beginner dancer, or extending, strengthening, and improving your current foundation as an intermediate or advanced dancer. It's something you will continue working on through your dance life. Hit a plateau... go back to your foundations.
You're still reading! Good! You found the MeetUp secret.
If you are only coming to the Jam Session this series, present an instrument at the door and get comped in by saying, "I'm an Adventurer!"
If you are signing up for this series, and take all the series from start to finish now through the new year, you will get to be an original member of Jam Circle's Happy Feet Club. Upcoming Series Information:
Series 2 - The Swing Out
Series 3 - 6 Basic Swing Outs Every Lindy Hopper Should Know
The Swing Out is considered Lindy's basic step. There is nothing basic about it. It is one of the most difficult moves to master and is underutilized by most dancers for this reason. The abilities required to do it properly goes right back to your foundations. The Swing Out has the ability to define your level in Lindy Hop. At times in class, we may divide up into different levels of dancers in order for everyone to get the proper kind of practice and instruction that will advance their dancing. You may have mad-skillz in one area of your dancing, but end up in a different level for other skills.
In the end, my goal is to build a strong swing dance community in Ann Arbor. Not just a scene, but a community. This involves an open and friendly group of dancers who want to continue growing themselves and bring in new people, and create a network of musicians and businesses that love us. This is my first step. Welcome to my journey. I hope it becomes part of your journey.
