I am planning a trip to Pictured Rocks in August... This is an information and meet n greet... I will have details/plans of the trip and will be taking suggestions... We are in the beginning stages of organization and I am opening it up to this group to see whose in... If the weather is bad we will head to depot town... Meet me in the parking lot and we will discuss the details there or by the river... After which we can grab a drink... I am planning to backpack but here are some other options for this trip: Sea kayaking the shore Canoeing the two hearted river A boat ride along the shore! I look forward to meeting those interested! If you are interested and can't make the meeting... Let me know and I will send you a copy of meeting notes!
MEETING NOTES: Backpacking Pictured rocks national lake shore trip details! Proposed dates: 8/11-8/17 Cost: $5 per person per night, hotel for Friday the 17th FYI: Pictured rocks is a 42 mile long trail It is rated as easy However, I have been told there is small ups and downs and climbing over rocks etc. Some days could be more difficult technically. Only 2 of the sites have backcountry toilets... So shovels are a necessity. Once we finish the 42 miles we can get a ride back to Munising Fires are only permitted at sites with rings Park rules: 1. No more than 6 people per site 2. No more than 2 tents per site Current plan: -We will drive up there on Saturday the 11th -Camp that night in Munising -Check in at the visitors center on Sunday and begin -Groups of 6 will travel together -We will backpack approximately 7 miles each day (of course that will probably change depending on weather/group/etc) -We will do day hikes after getting to camp -On Friday, we will catch the forest service shuttle back to Munising and crash at a hotel. -On Saturday the 18th, I plan to set up an event for sea kayaking the shore (I do not plan on doing that myself) -my plan is to kayak or canoe the two hearted river. -Sunday the 19th everyone heads home :-( Personal must haves: -backpack -good hiking boots -appropriate clothing for changing weather -sleeping bag -sleeping mat -compass Group must haves -2-3 stoves -2 poop shovels -2-3 water filtration devices -2 three person tents or tarps -bag or bags for hanging from trees to store food/toiletries -2 trail maps -first aid kit Groups will be determined after I figure out who is actually going. What I expect: -that everyone in a group will meet at least twice to plan and get to know one another (you better learn to like one another before the trip lol) -that a group works together, and supports all members -that each person is physically capable of completing this journey and of assisting group members in an emergency situation (i.e. carrying them to help/safety)
