Met three interesting people over plantain nachos. Almost a lightning round of ideas. Enjoyed a discussion about coding, design, and ebooks with Monte of MiCHIgan.

This event attracted entrepreneurs and VC's from SE MI shows why Techbrewery is the hub of the Detroit Metro startup hub. If you have not seen Paul Graham's recent essay, "Why Startup Hubs Work", take time to read it. I think it provides some insight into why Techbrewery works so well, not just for the tenants but for the area's entire entrepreneurial community. From the article, "I think there are two components to the antidote: being in a place where startups are the cool thing to do, and chance meetings with people who can help you. And what drives them both is the number of startup people around you." Another key sentence from the article characterizes what I have seen from the people at Techbrewery, "Many observers have noticed that one of the most distinctive things about startup hubs is the degree to which people help one another out, with no expectation of getting anything in return."

Seeing a bald eagle spread its wings to 7 feet across, towering above the crowd in the atrium was stunning. The food, cake, beer, DJ, and costumes were great - kudos to Kush and LanguageMate, and happy birthday to Bill (and Michelle at OcuSciences)! Thanks to Eve Aronoff (Frita Batidos), Tanya Luz (, and Mary Lemmer (Iorio's gelato!) for indulging us!

There were car keys left in the Brewery after the event, unclaimed by the time we locked the building at 9:30. Call Dug at (408)[masked] to claim them with a description of them.

Waitlisted folks are welcome to check us out, but please be considerate of parking (there's also an empty lot off Broadway, 2 blocks away) and food/drink (we'll have sodas and such to augment what LanguageMate's providing).

The LanguageMate team is juiced to be working with Dug, Linh and the great folks at the TechBrewery to co-host our first big bash in town! In the spirit of the event and the holiday, I challenge everyone to dress up (optional, of course) as their favorite "Word, Phrase, Innuendo or Language" and ask new faces to guess what you came as! I am looking forward to seeing many of you out this Friday! Cheers~

Indeed - I've changed the event name so there's no confusion, and added a note to park on Broadway if the parking lot is full. Our fourth Friday events are usually bigger.
