As long as I can find the law school building in the dark, I will be attending the Nov.27th meetup; and even though the subject matter of presenters is not exactly of much interest to me, I do want to see how this crowd works together. I will be wearing a plaid blue hat... and will give out ten toy prototypes of my invention to the first ten attendees who approach and ask for one, albeit they must also be truly interested in a pioneering technology of the mechanical sort, and not just hungry for a free-bee... and I will require your name in exchange. I look forward to the event and have come a long way to attend. I post this today, Nov.25, 2012. Glenn R. Rouse.

I checked out your sites... and crowd-funding... and it's an honorable mission you're on though I wonder how many students will participate if they are not the ones to benefit from the effort -- not all want to be entrepreneurs... though all may want to be capitalists. And what are all these ideas and products they'll be inventing? Oh, and I have looked at kickstarter. Anyhow, I need to look deeper to see the feasibility of what you're advocating. And, again, what of the notion to tap into the non-student reservoir of individuals to have them provide the ideas for development. My invention came out of ten years or more of research... but kids in school won't get to hang out in school for ten years to come up with the next best thing. Please let me know how your symposium went. Thanks. All my best, G. Rouse, Dec.17, 2012

thanks again, Glenn. Here's the thing: Students do benefit. In several ways: 1) they learn from mentors in real time the challenges of running a local business, 2) they help their schools raise funds that directly benefit their education, 3) they learn the tricks to raise funds for their own ideas at a stage when they're still young enough to have great ideas, and not have the burdens of adulthood to stymie them! And the final benefit that few talk about is that in the process of the above, many find out they're not meant to be entrepreneurs. it's hard! So, those will still have shown the initiative and followthrough, despite the results, but in the mix they've earned the respect of employers who prefer workers that know how hard being boss is and want no part in it. That's a good employee! Stay in touch. Scott

Deeply moved by Joe Ingersoll's founder-to-founder startup advice recounting the awesome successes and gut-wrenching disappointments of a $20m exit. If you're doing anything in the real estate market online, you need to meet him at the Tech Brewery.

I, too, was moved by Joe's willingness to put himself out there so that we could learn from his challenging life experiences. Shortly after I found out about this very cool website for business owners to learn from each other's mistakes. Please pass it one! http://www.faildetroi...

We need to remember to have investors identify themselves. We had folks from Compuware Ventures, Ludlow Ventures, Focus Ventures, Arsenal Venture Partners, Michigan eLab, Leapfrog Holdings, and The Carlyle Group all at this event, and I'm wondering if I'm one of the few that actually noticed.

A young 20-something entrepreneur, Duran Roberson, is coming to our group tonight for the first time and I hope that he will find that the smart and capable folks in attendance will help him to feel welcome to the community

You will be welcome! Be sure to read Paul Quesada's reply to Roger Rayle's post. Preparation helps in a successful outcome Duran ... but amazingly enough "Better Safe than Sorry" doesn't quite equate to "Without Risk there can be no Return." I hope this group helps your startup! It has helped me immeasurably! See you this evening

A2Newtech is in room 1225 South Hall at Monroe and State, south of the Law Quad. The building is so new it's not yet on Google Maps or Street View or Bing's Bird's Eye view. Here's a photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jw... ... and here's a map to/from the Hill Street parking structure (free after 5pm): http://www.a2newtech.org/photos... On street meter parking is free after 6pm.

    November 25

    • Paul Quesada

Also note: The doors to South Hall lock shut at 7pm, and after that you need a pass code to enter -- just something to keep in mind.

I'd like to come down for the Nov.27th meetup in AA. I live in Traverse City; have a brother in Canton. But, then, how do I get on the list to demo my invention (U.S. Pat. 7,278,245)? Any chance of showing it at this Nov.27th meeeting?
