Ann Arbor New Tech February Meetup

5 companies this month take the stage for 10 minutes each, 5 minutes to demo and 5 minutes to answer questions, followed by networking downstairs at Bar Louie. Space is limited, RSVP strictly required.

We'll also have time for quick announcements, if you have something to share with the community. The waitlist is being automatically managed, so folks who cancel will be replaced by those on the waitlist in order. Live broadcast (we hope) at

The venue was less than ideal. Pretty crowded and sometimes difficult to hear the speakers. I was at the back of the room and could not see the bottoms of the screens the presentations were being projected on. The content, though, was really good. Other than the people with the fb app, whose business model I didn't understand, the rest of the presentations were really interesting.

The speakers were interesting but it was difficult to network with others. I did not go to Bar Louie afterward so I probably could of networked there but I don't drink and I don't care for bars.

Thanks so much for the opportunity to present The Generation Project (http://www.thegenerationproject.org). We met so many interesting people who had insightful questions for us (and many of their own exciting ventures) and we made some great contacts. We look forward to staying in touch with this vibrant community of movers and shakers!

It was a great meetup. There were many people I did not know which is unusual for the A2 Entrepreneurial community. The pitches needed some work and the large crowd did not lend to a lot of questions for the presenters. It would also me nice for the speakers to have "tables" to demo their ideas after the presentations. A place that served drinks to hold the cocktail so networking can continue after the presentation would be nice. Snacks would have been nice as most had not eaten (but headed down to the bar anyway.)

Lots of interesting people. Found 2 job leads. A reasonable level of chaos. Only minor technical problems observed.

It is great to see the Tech community come out in force. Since the Ann Arbor IT Zone got folded into Spark there has been a void in Ann Arbor with respect to focusing on the local tech community, vs. mixing it in with marketing, legal and other business issues, which are valuable in their own right, but ended up diluting what had previously been a technology focus.

Interesting set of presenting companies/startups. Would like a little formality in regard to networking, a small amount of time dedicated to new members to introduce themselves/their business to the Meetup (no more than 5 minutes right at the start of the meeting or right at the end). I enjoyed this experience.

We had 33 unique viewers for the Ustream broadcast of our event, including folks in Canada (new URL for the show: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/a2nt ). Does anyone have the logs of the chat at the time? I neglected to set up an IRC logbot on chat1.ustream.tv, sadly...

Thanks to our speakers for their fantastic presentations, and staying on-time.

Thanks to those 'Maybes' that updated their RSVPs to allow more waitlisted folks in, and those that joined us on our Ustreamed feed!

Thanks to our polite and exceedingly patient audience for enduring an hour of talks with no food or drink; we will be sure to arrange for this next time.

And finally, thanks to Adam and Edward who flew in from San Francisco and Los Angeles for some balmy Michigan weather!

A broad mix of Healthcare 2.0, Sales 2.0, Non-profit 2.0, Nanotech/Medicine 2.0, and Web 2.0 companies for this first, decidedly 1.0 meetup. Thank you all for joining, and to our sponsors (Google, Safford & Baker, and the Center for Entrepreneurship) for supporting this event on such short notice!

Food+drink... at least munchies+water. Have presenters bring their presentations on memory sticks or load up ahead of time so can use one computer already hooked up to projector. Have shotgun mike for Q&A. If recording video, record audio directly from sound system for best audio. Maybe print some user-submitted words under name on name tag as conversation starter.

This was the first Meetup that I'd attended, and I learned a lot. I've mainly worked for large companies. I like the positive energy.

Just a question, but where do all the young techies live? Downtown? Do they drive into town? I know that there are a lot of startups with offices downtown.
Meetup was informative....good cross section of ideas.

For this first meetup, we estimated attendance based on January's Startup Drinks, SPARK's Open Coffee and Mingle & Match events, and our 1-week lead time for an announcement - not ArbCamp 08. Clearly, there's more interest in early-stage, high-tech startups than any of these prior events hinted at, and we'll do better to secure a larger venue next time with CfE's support. My apologies.

FWIW, we're targeting 300 for March's TechCocktail, and TechNow09 in April will admit up to 1000...

This is the 2nd meeting that's been too full.
