Equity for Chief Technical Officer

Hi Guys,

Launching a new tech venture. I am myself not technical but have a great technical co-founder (finally...:) i am trying to see how much equity to award him. My concern is to structure it in such a way so that he is incentivised to stay long term with the company. Any thoughts, suggestions?

Basically I've always expected an equal share when working with other co-founders. Anything less tends to instantly demotivate a co-founder. There are variables such as how big your option pool is, if you have existing employees, and how much money or effort you are expending. But in the end if it is not equal in the eyes of ALL co-founders you are heading for trouble.

Here is an article from one of my linked in folks that tends to cover most funding scenarios.
