Next Meetup – Lord of the Flies

And now for something completely different! The next book is Lord of the Flies by William Golding.

It’s another fairly short read with only 225 pages and is available on Amazon in paperback from £1.19 (bargain!) or Kindle for £4.79. Or there’s always the library J

We’ve decided to give a new venue a go – The Olde England, a traditional real ale pub with lots of character. Check it out at www.theoldeengland.com. Once we have an idea of numbers, we’ll try and reserve a table if we can.

It's diagonally opposite The Picturedrome on the Kettering Road. There’s parking next door in the Racecourse car park, or in the residential streets behind the pub, which aren’t permit spaces.

Sarah and I live in Weston Favell so if anyone wants to come with us, just let us know.

Hope you can all make it. Happy reading!

For anyone who couldn't make the meetup, here are some of the questions we looked at...

    - Is Lord of the Flies as relevant today as when it was written in the 1950’s? - Do you think children would survive on the island in a real life situation? - Piggy said everything would be different if it were adults on the island. Do you think this would be the case?

    - Why do you think nobody, except Piggy, really cared for the littluns?

    - Apart from your loved ones, what’s the one thing you’d miss most on a desert island?

    - What role does the conch play? How does it represent a civilizing force?

    - Why do you think only a handful of the boys could see the importance of the fire?

    - What do you think the beast represents? - Why do you think the littleuns choose to follow Jack rather than Ralph in the end? - What role do you think you would play in this situation – civilised or a savage?

    - What’s your desert island disc?

Hi ALL, unfortunately I had a yoga incident earlier in the week that out me out of action for the week, it did however give me time to read Lord of the flies. I would be really interested in reading other peoples opinions on this book as I found it fascinating. It was the first time I had read this book.

Hi all, Thanks to everyone for coming along last night, we hope you all had a good night – it was great to see everyone.

We all seemed to enjoy Lord of the Flies and there was plenty to talk about! The Olde England is a great pub, but unfortunately, it was quite noisy, so apologies we couldn’t talk as a group. Probably better to stick to that one just for drinks in future ☺

We’ll post some of the questions and as always, we welcome any comments or suggestions. They’re really just starting points for discussions.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the next Meetup, which we’ll be posting shortly. Watch this space…

Good idea to try this one ! It might be an idea to try the downstairs bar as it is a bit quieter.
