October Game of the Month: Mouse Guard!!

You play a member of the Mouse Guard, a mouse in fact. You are a protector, a guide, a herald for danger, a paladin for all mouse kind, strong in will and swift in action. But the world is a terribly dangerous place for mice. Mouse Guard uses a light version of the Burning Wheel rules.

The food stores at Pebblestone were ruined by flooding and the people there are starving.  A Guard Patrol was dispatched to guard the food on its way to Pebblestone but neither the food nor the Patrol made it there.  Now it is in the thick of Winter and Gwendolyn has asked for volunteers for another Patrol to search out the other Patrol and to get the food to Pebblestone safely.  The winds of Winter blow icy cold.  Will you accept the challenge?

Check out the poster I made that shows the Guard's Oath:

Had a pretty good turnout considering what kind of a game we were playing! I had a really good time and learned a lot about Mouse Guard. Having run it once it makes me want to run it again so I can do it better! Nice to meet you David and Pamela!

Nicholas, I really appreciate you taking the time to explain the game and for the pdf file. I was up until 3 am reading it last night and have a good idea of the character I could be. I got a bit on overwhelm as to some details of how the game works and have some questions but I am sure the game will unfold when we all get together. The posters were great! I look forward to the event.

I have a committment beginning at 4pm. That sounds to me like I can't attend. But hey, I figure I'll ask: could I come anyway? I've read Burning Wheel, but have never played Mouse Guard, so I'd need some teaching.

I haven't really seen either of those (alas!) but from what it looks like Mouse Guard is grittier than Tales of Desperaux. There is more of a weight that is given to what the Mouse Guard does. It is a burden and it has taken a fair number of mouse lives. It is not a light romp through the wilderness, particularly when we are playing (in the Winter). Winter itself makes travel very dangerous. But it is something that must be done. The Guard will get it done.

I have never played but Mouse Guard sounds great! What is Mouse Guard? I have not done a role playing game before even (shock horror is the usual response) dungeons and dragons. I just began board games and have gone 2 times and love it. So, forgive my ignorance but is this a board game? Is this a game where you dress up literally in a space somewhere and something occurs? How does that work? Please enlighten me as to what this really is. I am interested.

It explains what a role playing game is and gives a nice summary of the history of the Mouse Guard on pages 18-24. I will stop typing now but suffice it to say I am really excited to play it! I am also really excited that you have decided to join us! Please let me know if you have any other questions and I will promise to be brief!

There is a copy of the book in pdf form online here:

If anyone wants to check it out. There is a really nice section on the History of the Guard on pages 18-24. The book is gorgeous and gives a really nice feel for the game. Check it out!

Hey all! I made a poster for the Mouse Guard game:

Or you can click on the Photos tab at the top of the screen and hit Game Posters. Came out pretty darn cool but Mouse Guard art is so beautiful that it is hard not to have it look awesome.

Man, this sounds like fun but I have another commitment that afternoon. Too bad. Maybe there'll be another chance to play Mouseguard again later...

I updated the description to include a little teaser for the game. I will most likely post other things too as the world of Mouse Guard might be a little large to cram all into one game session!
