March Topic: SEO & SEM

SEO = Search Engine Optimization (organic traffic)

SEM = Search Engine Marketing (paid traffic)

This one is a "must-attend" meeting. We will spend about 25 minutes on each topic and you can expect some great juicy tips and tricks.

I'll be covering SEO with four subheadings: Keyword Placement, Homepage Mentality, Link Building Tricks and Diagnostic Tools. I have used this same information to get dozens of websites on the first page of Google for targeted keyword phrases (some of them for members of our group). This stuff works. I guarantee it. I use these strategies every day.

It's impossible to cover SEO in 25 minutes but we'll get through a lot. It'll be a bit rapid-fire but you'll leave with specific strategies to get your site to rank better on the search engines. I will also bring handouts with much of the information laid out for future reference. Those handouts will NOT be posted on our meetup page afterwards so you have to attend the meeting to get them.

Kimberly Pointer will be covering SEM. She graduated from the University of Portland in 2004 with a BBA in Accounting and a minor in Psychology. After college, she worked for Moss Adams LLP as a financial statement auditor, and then for Umpqua Bank as an internal auditor. Later, Kimberly found her calling with Search Engine Marketing (SEM), as it marries both analytical and creative thinking. Currently working for Organic Bouquet in San Francisco, Kimberly specializes in web and cause marketing.

Kimberly Pointer will be discussing the basics of Search Engine Marketing and why it’s an essential component of any successful business plan. Specifically, she'll focus on Google AdWords and will illustrate exactly how the program works and how to optimize your results. In addition, Kimberly will tie in the current financial crisis facing business owners and how to best leverage online campaigns during this difficult economic time.

*** Bring business cards!! ***

We'll be doing our usual introductions during the first half of the meeting, followed by a 15-minute networking break. You're also welcome to bring flyers and promotional material for the front table.

Thank you.

Patrick.

    •  This was a fun event, lots of enthusiastic people to meet! Thanks Patrick!
    •  This meeting rocks. It's always a great time.
    •  I thought it was excellant. Patrick did a great job in explaining SEO. I am still confused, but less confused than what I was before.
    • Charis Hanshaw (+1 guest)
As a first time visitor in April, I attended primarily for the presentation portion on SEO/SEM, and was interested in checking out the format of the meeting with 150 attendees expected. It was refreshing to find a good balance of friendly smart business people, useful information and a respectful timed agenda. Patrick proved fun and professionalism can coexist.
    •  It was a fun, lively group and the subject matter was really relevant to what I am doing.

The event was well organized, particularly considering the size of the group. The cards and timed intros were a great idea. I was able to pick up some good tips and gather ideas and inspiration from the presentation and from the dynamic and diverse group of entrepreneurs who attended.
    •  Patrick is an incredibly skilled facilitator as well as an unending wealth of knowledge on internet marketing. I think his is undoubtably the BEST Meet Up available to any entrepreneur out there. It is a fabuous resource for information as well as networking. Many thanks to Patrick for continually dedicating his time and spirit.
    •  Great info and networking - I will definetly come back!

patrick is a fabulous presenter - he is a dynamic speaker with a wealth of info to share. Wonderful personality and great moderator. Good job today with controlling the length and number of people giving their elevator speech
    •  I thought the meeting was very well organized, content rich, qualified speakers with a diversified group of entrepreneurs in the audience also. It seemed like almost everything went off without a hitch, more or less. I enjoyed it, I learned a lot, made a potential connection and will likely attend one of the courses offered by one of the audience members.
    •  The quality of the education is great. The networking is poor - just not enough time.
    •  liked the cards and timing of attendee presentations, liked the presentations by the two who 'purchased' the opportunity to address the group. Patrick and Kimberly's presentations were a bit rushed but brought up key points to consider and research/implement.
