I also forgot to thank Matt and the rest of the meetup group for playing/singing ‘Find the cost…’ for my Mom, Lisa’s Dad (I also played ‘Tears in Heaven’ when my Dad died in August of 2008, but the first time was about Thanksgiving 2007, in honor of the passing of my wifes Grandmother [106 years old].

I only had a week or so to learn this in the [pretty-much] authentic Clapton rendition. There are parts from the publisher’s version, parts from how I heard and saw him play/sing it at a concert at MSG in NYC, and parts I made up myself.

I considered this just a rehearsal - not the OFFICIAL video - to be uploaded in GOOD quality, so I wasn’t nervous and made it through without any bad clunkers. SO, Here’s my [somewhat poor recorded quality] video on YouTube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

    Thanks Lisa!

I’ll find another decent version and put it in the “Files” section, so that if you all want to play this next time, at least we’ll be in the same key, and we'll all have the same chords-lyrics.

sorry for the loss of your mother. Matt led a beautiful instrumental and we all joined in to sing a few rounds of the refrain. The lyrics are so poignant, it was fitting. I hope you don't mind ( and won't feel co-opted) that when I said the song was at your request, for your mother, I mentioned my father, whom I lost in August.

No problem at all Lisa! Just THANKS for playing-singing for BOTH our parents (and any others lost in our group).
See above for another message for you about my video of “Tears in Heaven” on YouTube from ~ 5 years ago and if we can work out something like that with some playing just chords, some singing, etc.
What I played is a combo of about 5 sets of good tabs I took the best of each from (I have sheet music for those tabs but no single sheet of the final product I played which is only in my head (which makes it very vulnerable to disintegration with my memory!). It will be good if a bunch of us know pretty much what I played (that is, if you like it).

I printed some sheets for Find the Cost of Freedom, I couldn't find much but i got some chords. At the very least we can sing the refrain a capella for Jim. See you tonight.

I have not forgotten about this group, and I will be returning sooner than later, as I love this group and miss it so very much. But my dear 102 year-old mother passed away last Saturday from pneumonia. So I have a lot to do in the next week or two. But I do have one request : the CSN&Y song “Find the Cost of Freedom” (…’buried in the ground … Mother Earth will swallow you, lay your body down…’) has been going through my head since Mom passed-away, and it’s a song that's short and simple to play, so if it’s not too late to able to do so, could those of you going tonight play/sing through it (and if possible record it)? I would so appreciate it! But if it’s too late notice for it to be done so soon, I fully understand! In any case, I hope when I am able to return to the next meetup of this group, I will have practiced it and we can do it all together.

A good Thanksgiving to everyone and I hope to be there by Christmas and a meetup will take place before Christmas too.

    ~Jim

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
