Bath Happiness Group

The first meeting was Tuesday 29th October 2013 with Sue and myself.  The initial meeting format was as follows:

Welcome

What is the idea of a local group: They are intended to bring together like-minded people who believe in the idea behind Action For Happiness. This includes a shared desire for a happier society and a recognition that we can do practical things to make ourselves and others happier through the way we live our lives.

Groups are about 3 things:

Learning: Finding out about the causes of happiness and the practical things we can do to increase it using proven scientific research and materials provided by Action For Happiness.

Connecting: Meeting, sharing ideas, inspiration, stories and challenges with other like-minded people.

Taking Action: Committing to trying out personal actions and communal projects to spread happiness whilst supporting each other.

1.  Introductions

Group members take it in turn to introduce themselves and say something about their interest in happiness and well-being and why they are keen to be part of the group.

2.  Good Things

Each member takes it in turn to share something good that has happened to them recently.

3.  Learning & Sharing

Fun Activity – Happiness Priorities Game

In groups of two to four people, try to agree together the order of priority for these ten items from 1-10 in terms of their importance for your long-term happiness.  These ten items are:

My Appearance/My Attitude/My Family & Friends/My Health/My Home & Local Area/My Influence/My Interests/My Money/My Possessions/My Work.

Discussion – The Ten Keys to Happier Living

http://www.actionforhappiness.org/10-keys

Group to share their perspective about Action For Happiness and decide if want to meet regularly as a group.

4.  Action – Discuss How Group Will Work

- Agreeing the groups aims and any preferred balance for activities between learning, sharing and taking action.

- Committing to the characteristics and behaviours listed in the “Our Approach” and “Our Values” section and adding in any more values group feels are important.

- Allocating roles for group members -  I am happy to be the Group Organiser and Sue is happy to take on the role as Discussion Leader and there are plenty of other roles to be shared within the group.

- Agreeing logistics and preferred themes for subsequent group meetings - The Porter Bar first floor seating area is perfect as a venue for the immediate future and their coffee with chocolate truffle is amazing!

5.  Summary of what has been agreed and end session.

In order to start the new year off with a positive approach and to learn/share and connect with like minded people the next session will be Tuesday 7th January 2014 at 6pm on the first floor of The Porter Bar.  Please allow about 1.5 hours for the group meeting and members can stay on for informal drinks and a chat after this time if they wish.

(If potential members find this date and time difficult then we could do slightly later at 6.30pm on either a Tuesday, Wednesday or a Thursday).

6. On-Going Meetings

These will have a similar format to above and once we have a group together we can decide on the theme and logistics for future sessions during the group session.

All contributions and suggestions welcome.

Thank you!

    Dear All
Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and are looking forward to the new year. Please can you all let me know if you are going to attend the next meeting on Tuesday 7th January as at the moment it looks like Sue, Han, Ed and myself will be attending but am not sure if this list is updated from the last meeting. As initially mentioned, I wanted to see if there is enough interest in running a Bath Happiness Group with members sharing the workload and at present I am not sure if we have enough people interested to make it a viable option for future meetings. Maybe if we have enough attendees at the next meeting we can discuss this then?

    Best wishes
    Anne-Marie

Also, you might like to just have a look on the main website before meeting on Tuesday and also will be useful for those that are not able to make it:

    http://www.actionforhappiness.org/

I will bring my folder which has information from the last meeting so we can also look at that as well as deciding how to progress the group.

Okay why don't we meet up. Maybe at Porters on the first floor if we are a small group and it's after 4.30pm or Cafe Lucca (more space) daytime?
    What days/evenings suit everyone?
It would be good to have more to offer on this subject?
Personally I can do Tuesday Wednesday some weekends

Hi Anne Marie, I am a life coach with strong interest in Positive Psychology and Happiness. I have been to many of the AFH sessions in London which are always great and have thought about setting a group up so would be interested. I live about 20 minutes south of Bath. Fingers crossed!
