Now that I know where the trail head is at Elizabeth Furnace, I am ready to do the hike again. This time it will really be 7 miles. I am going to combine the Buzzard Rock and the Buzzard Rock North hikes. We will start the hike from Elizabeth Furnace picnic area and hike up to ridge on the blue/orange blazed trail. Then we will turn left onto the white blazed trail and take it to Buzzard Rocks. This is about 5 miles total We will stop at Buzzard Rocks to eat lunch, before heading the last 2 miles down the white trail to the Buzzard Rock North Parking area. Plan on hiking for about 4 hours. There are some strenuous ascents, steep descents, and lots of rocks, so be prepared. You should have some previous experience hiking and doing longer walks with your dog.
This is a point to point hike, so we will need to leave a couple cars at the Buzzard Rock North Parking area to use as shuttles. At 9:30am, once everyone has arrived, we will coordinate how many cars we need to leave at each parking area. Please only sign up for this hike if you are willing/able to hike from point A to point B. If you would like to do a shorter version of the hike, please set up separate, member led hike in the "suggest a hike" section of the website.
There are no leash laws in the GWNF, so the dogs can be off leash most of the time. If your dog is off leash, he/she must be under voice control at all times. You also must carry a leash with you. This is a somewhat popular hike and we will run into other people/dogs and there may be a situation when they need to be on leash. Please review our Off Leash Policy before the hike.
There is no water on this hike, so please bring enough for both you and your dog.
I will cancel the event if there is a chance of lightning/storms or a lot of rain. I will update the hike on Friday by 8pm if I decide to cancel it.
Looking forward to the hike!
