The Hollow Brook/Appalacian Trail hike should be a nice one to do in July. It's usually not too challenging, but in the summer heat it will harder. There are many stream crossings, so lots of water for the dogs. We will start at the parking area of the Hollow Brook hike. We will hike from the parking area to Buzzard hill, then continue on past Buzzard Hill to the intersection of the AT and Moore Shelter Trail (part of the Buzzard Hill hike). This will make the hike about 7 miles total. Plan on 4-5 hours depending on how many breaks we take. At most of the stream crossings we will stop for 5-10 min to let the dogs rest and cool off in the water. As with most of the hikes in the area, there will be lots of rocks, so good hiking shoes are recommended.
The parking area is small so I am limiting the number of people allowed. Please only sign up if you are committed to attending. Here is a link to the no-show policy. Please review it before RSVPing. Carpooling is strongly encouraged. Those interested please let me know. We will meet at the Vienna Metro North Parking lot at 7:30am.
There will be opportunities for off leash play, as this is not a busy trail. We will need to leash up if we come across other people and dogs. Your dog needs to have good recall if you allow him off leash. Please review our Off Leash Policy before the hike.
Bring lots of water! Most of the hike is shaded, but it will be hot. Make sure you have enough for you and extra for your dog.
I will cancel the event if the forecast calls for rain/thunderstorms or excessive heat. I will update the hike by noon Friday if I decide to cancel it.
Looking forward to seeing everyone!
