Happy September! How about a hike this weekend in Sterling? Claude Moore Park has more than 11 miles of trails (we'll be doing the trail that runs around the perimeter of the park), and contains the last traces of undeveloped length of the Vestal's Gap Road, which existed as early as 1692, and was once the main drag between Alexandria and Winchester.
What to expect: Expect dirt trails with some cobbles, and a moderate climb to a scenic overview. There are many additional trails if you would like to continue on after the group ends the hike. Be sure to bring water for you and your dog, and snacks if you think you'll need them. I expect that this hike will take about an hour and a half.
Leash Required: Per the regulations of this park, this hike will be entirely on-leash. As a large group of K9 hikers, we generally attract a lot of attention, and rangers have been known to check in on us. To ensure that the group is not banned from a site, all members must follow the leash policy of the park. Also, it is not fair to other dog owners and hikers on the trail (and in the group!) who aren’t expecting off-leash encounters. They may have specifically chosen this park to avoid off-leash dogs.
Hope to see you on Saturday!
