Where: HAWK CAMPGROUND - George Washington National Forest, Wardensville, WV

Click here for google directions.  It says it will take me 1hr 45min from DC.

Here are the written directions from I-81From I-81Take exit 296 and turn west on VA 55. Drive 14.5 miles and cross into West Virginia at top of mountain (VA 55 becomes WV 55). Descend for 1.0 mile and make a sharp right turn onto Forest Road 502 (gravel road). After 2.7 miles, turn left onto Forest Road 347. Camp entrance is on the right.

Details: Hi everyone!  I came to check out this campground before the hike I'm leading tomorrow (Saturday).  It turns out that it is really nice, so I thought I would open it up to other members would like to join me.  If you are free, come on out for Friday and/or Saturday nights.  There is a major hiking trail (Tuscarora Trail) that goes right by the campground, so you will have an opportunity to get out for a bit if you like.  Here is a more detailed description of the campground and hiking trails.

You can still come on Saturday even after the RSVPs close on Friday.  Just let me know you're coming in the comment section.  The meetup system won't let people add on after the event has started.  I have no problem with you showing up on Saturday even though you can no longer officially RSVP.  I can add you on after the event.

I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS BECAUSE I'M OUT OF CELL PHONE RANGE. I am already at the campground and have limited cell reception, so unfortunately I will not be able to respond to comments.  If you are feeling a little adventurous come on out and join me!

Campground info: This is a Primitive Campground

Leash Policy: ON-Leash. If you go hiking, once out of the campground the leash optional.

Water: There is a pump, but I would bring water to be on the safe side. No streams run through the campground.

Bathroom: Vault toilets on site.  It's always good to bring extra TP.

Fee: No fee for camping.  Please bring firewood or some money to contribute.

Food/Beverages: Bring food for you and your dog.  Alcoholic beverages are allowed at the campsites

Trash: This is a pack in/pack out campground.  You will need to bring a trash bag and remove your own.

Hope some of you can make it!

I am at the group camp site. Google maps got me here no problem. The only tricky part is right at the end. When you get to the large national forest sign for Hawk and a sign that says road ends 2 miles TURN RIGHT. The campground is right there. Follow the signs to the group camp. There's a parking area and a very short walk to the site.
