Hike the Appalachian Trail from Gathland State Park

Start at Gathland State Park and hike along the AT to the Ed Garvey Shelter. Round trip distance is 7.4 miles. Slight elevation and good footing (but a bit rocky in spots). There are public restrooms and good parking at the park.

Cullowhee and I are looking forward to meeting everyone on Saturday! We will meet at the benches next to the restrooms (the benches surround a large tree). Please be prepared to pick up your dog's waste in this area - there are trash cans in the restrooms.

Since we will be hiking on the AT, we will be following the guidelines of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy - http://www.appalachiantrail.org.... "Leashes ARE REQUIRED on more than 40 percent of the Trail, including...Maryland (entire state). We recommend dogs be leashed at all times, as a matter of courtesy to other hikers and to minimize stress to wildlife, regardless of whether it’s required by law. "

I guess I don't have permission to limit the number of RSVPs? I prefer to limit group size to 10 (particularly if there are 4 legged hikers) if possible in order to follow Leave No Trace.

Sounds just great except my dog will probably not be ready. She's in rehab right now to build up her left hind leg.
