Introduction

Hello. My name is Alex. Very nice to meet you :-) Let's see I grew up in NJ, I'm in the Air Force and have lived in OH, NV, NM, OH, and now VA. I've lived here since 2006.

Please describe the dog(s) you own: name, breed, age, sex, etc... so we can get to know a little more about our new pack member(s)!

Ernie is a male Rottie mix that I got in 2008 when he was ~5yo. Based on the DNA test he is ... wait for it ... Predominantly Rottweiler mixed with Labrador/Basset Hound/Toy Fox Terrier. I grew up with a Irish setter and at one time shared my life with 4 dogs.

What are you looking for in a trail club? Describe what you hope to get out of the group and what can you contribute to the group.

I'm mostly looking to spend time out in the woods with Ernie off-leash, so most of the hikes I organize will be just that. And of course I do like meeting new people.

What does your ideal day outdoors involve? Please give the name and location of your favorite local hike or walk and describe the trail for us. Is it rocky, is there much elevation change, does it involve water, etc...

A hike, BBQ and wine :) I like anywhere that Ernie can be off-leash, despite the fact that he just walks behind me peeing on things. I swear he finds a way to walk LESS miles than I do.

Have you and your dog(s) earned any titles or are you working towards any titles? Agility, Canine Good Citizen (CGC), working dog, pack dog, water dog, therapy dog, etc... ???

I believe Ernie would make a wonderful therapy dog, unfortunately he is too new dog reactive. But don't worry he calms down once he realizes your dog will leave him alone and ignore him. He's a 100% people dog.

What Alex is saying about this Meetup Group

Why should you join? Because the guilt will eat you up inside every time you look at your puppy if you don't >;-)

  • Thanks for the greeting, I'll be sure to try and join you on the next "off leash" hike if I can, as Rusty is much more of an off-leash in the woods type of dog. Hope to meet you sometime soon!

  • I'm so sorry we missed your meetup this past Saturday! The weather was perfect and you had a great bunch of 2 and 4-legged friends. I'm going to have to check my email/calendar more frequently because the last I saw scheduled was a hard hike about 4 hours drive from our home. Scott's Run looked much closer and easier for our first foray with the group. Hope to meet up soon!

  • Hi Alex - I tried to reply to your email of 3/15 but for some reason the reply wouldn't go through. FYI, I followed your instructions and did indeed see the two mailing lists. Now that I'm back in town, knee is close to healed and weather is warming I plan to start organizing (easy) hikes again. Hope you're well - all the best, Agi

  • hi Alex, can i recommend the we have a group text setup that you can possibly txt to cell phones if the Saturday hike is Overcome By Evens if the weather does not cooperate? it will be easier than having to login since some of us have to set out for the road at 0600 to be on time at the trail head. :)
