Mowgli's DNA test says he is a Rottie-Lab mix. We adopted at 1yo July 2013 from the PG County Shelter. He's a bit hesitant around new people at first but he does love attention and will soon lean in. Just don't go right for a face moosh, he's not a fan with strangers. Other dogs can be a challenge for Mowgli on first meeting especially on leash. He MUST be introduced slowly and controlled. Before him was Ernie. Ernie was also a male Rottie mix that I got in 2008 when he was ~5yo. His DNA test said he was predominantly Rottweiler mixed with Labrador/Basset Hound/Toy Fox Terrier. I grew up with a Irish setter and at one time shared my life with 4 dogs (Dobie-mix, Leonberger-mix, Dobie, and a Swissy).
I'm mostly looking to spend time out in the woods off-leash, but at this time Mowgli is not ready for that much freedom.
A hike, BBQ and wine :) I like anywhere that I can bring my dog.
At this point Mowgli has responded very well to clicker training. He's finally stopped wanted to chase cars at all and we've tentatively let him off leash with good results. I still worry what will happen when a rabbit crosses his path :O. His leash reactiveness has been harder to tame unfortunately.
Hello. My name is Alex. Very nice to meet you :-) Let's see I grew up in NJ and have lived in OH, NV, NM, OH, and now VA. I've lived here since 2006.
Why should you join? Because the guilt will eat you up inside every time you look at your puppy if you don't >;-)
SO GOOD to see you adopted Mowgli! Since Memorial Day, 2013 I had a hip replacement...remember me? I'd sign up for Labor Day if I could but so far I am scheduled to work Thursday night AND Friday night before Labor Day and I will be on Sunday and Monday- one or both. I'll miss it this year but I hope to be TOTALLY recovered next Memorial Day, and back to a more comfortable weight, and hiking up a storm for the next camping trip on top of the mountain in the camp site in West Virginia. Have FUN!
Thanks for the greeting, I'll be sure to try and join you on the next "off leash" hike if I can, as Rusty is much more of an off-leash in the woods type of dog. Hope to meet you sometime soon!

I thought I sent a message to you when i rsvped about hopping in your car, but I don't see the message anywhere? Did you get it? Can you touch base with me today?
I'm so sorry we missed your meetup this past Saturday! The weather was perfect and you had a great bunch of 2 and 4-legged friends. I'm going to have to check my email/calendar more frequently because the last I saw scheduled was a hard hike about 4 hours drive from our home. Scott's Run looked much closer and easier for our first foray with the group. Hope to meet up soon!
Hi Alex - I tried to reply to your email of 3/15 but for some reason the reply wouldn't go through. FYI, I followed your instructions and did indeed see the two mailing lists. Now that I'm back in town, knee is close to healed and weather is warming I plan to start organizing (easy) hikes again. Hope you're well - all the best, Agi
hi Alex, can i recommend the we have a group text setup that you can possibly txt to cell phones if the Saturday hike is Overcome By Evens if the weather does not cooperate? it will be easier than having to login since some of us have to set out for the road at 0600 to be on time at the trail head. :)
