This is Opportunity Village‘s 1st year to host the “HallOVeen”. As you probably know, Opportunity Village is a 100% local charity that serves people with intellectual disabilities to improve the quality of their lives and the lives of their families. Proceeds from this extraordinary event go directly to support programs and services for the 3,000 people with disabilities served every year. It is located on the Oakey campus at 6300 West Oakey, between Rainbow and Jones.
A.O.K. has been helping set up for HallOVeen and the Magical Forest on Opportunity Village's Saturday Days of Service. I think it will be fun for those who helped out try to find out the tombstones and trees they painted. Try and see if you can find the ones that you made yourself :)
Of course all of this takes a team effort of 75-100 volunteers a night. Please arrive on time by 4pm. Park at the back of the Opportunity Village building and follow the volunteer signs to the gym (access is off Community College Drive.) Jobs will be assigned by the staff of Opportunity Village when we meet in the gym. You can expect to be there until 9pm. It is difficult to leave early from most stations, so make sure you let someone know if you won't be staying the entire night; it is preferable to have volunteers that can commit until 9pm. All volunteers must be 18 years old.
Dress warmly as it could be quite chilly at night and be sure to wear comfortable shoes as you most likely won't be sitting much. You are allowed to dress up if you want to but please do NOT wear a mask. ALL Proceeds raised at the HallOVeen will benefit people with disabilities at Opportunity Village. Since 1954 Opportunity Village has been serving men and women in our community to provide them with programs and services to help enrich their lives.
**UPDATE** Mary-Beth was able to make a meeting held at OV to get some more information. OV is adamant that volunteers arrive at 4PM sharp. Please arrive on time. Here is a list of activities that we will be responsible for; Entry gate greeters, line monitor, ticket takers, park security, information booth, private party door monitor, exit, ride & attractions, costume and character volunteers and cash handling jobs.
I think it would be fun if our group is able to dress up. Please remember this is focused around young children so don't dress TOO spooky :)
I saw on the news that there is a cold front coming through Saturday night and the lows will be in the high 50s. It shouldn't be that cold while we are there but still dress warm. I am super excited and can't wait to have our group help out!
Hope to see you there!
