Last year, our amazing leader Alicia wrote,
"Five years ago I was sitting in my apartment, frustrated by the fact I couldn't find a volunteer organization that I could work with around my busy schedule. With a similiar mindset as all of you, I decided, it was time to find a solution to the problem. In networking at different events, I quickly learned of Meetup.com and it seemed like the perfect platform to create what I had in mind and A.O.K (Acts of Kindness) was formed."
This year, besides having the responsibility of home and family, Alicia is traveling nearly everyday for her new (and improved) job. Time is a commodity that she just does not have right now. All of the assistant organizers LOVE Alicia and would never want her to be disappointed that AOK's 6th Anniversary went by the wayside.
So, on Septemeber 28th, we will celebrate 6 glorious years of service to our community, friendship, family, laughter and more gifts than we could ever count. We have partnered with more than 30 local organizations to make a real, positive impact on the Vegas Valley and beyond.
Veteran AOKers. Newbies. Once in awhilers. Everybody is welcome. AOK will provide the water, but we do ask everybody to bring a potluck dish to share. From past experience, I can say that there will be some fabulicious food to enjoy. If you would like to bring along camp chairs or outdoor games, feel free.
Of course, this would not be an AOK event without some community service, so we are asking you to please bring along a bag of candy that will then be used to make up Halloween goody bags for the kids of Casa de Luz and LV Art Reach. Also organizers will have tables set-up for us to write out notes of thanks to active and retired service members through a group called a Million Thanks.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to be in touch.
We all look forward to seeing tons of our members out in the park. Thank you for being a part of AOK.
PS- If you have any donations for the upcoming yard sale for Aid for AIDS of Nevada, you can feel free to bring them along.
