Wash those hands!
Imagine, if you dare, a life without soap. Impoverished people around the world die every day form acute respiratory and diarrheal disease simply because they have no soap. Every year more than five million lives are lost to these diseases, with the majority of deaths being children under age five.
With all that in mind, a local non-profit called "Clean the World," has come up with an amazing concept.
Discarded soaps, shampoo bottles, conditioners and lotions are now being collected, and brought to their huge warehouse. The organization has distributed more than 8 million bars of recycled soap and hygiene kits where needed.
The soaps and bottles, which would otherwise be thrown away after a one time use, are used to battle the spread of disease. After the items are collected, they go through a cleaning process that make them just as sanitary and effective as one you would buy in a store or unwrap in a luxury hotel.
Join me, at the Clean the World warehouse on Thursday September 26 at 9AM. After arriving we'll see a short video on the organization, tour the facility and then get down to some business. There'll be bins and bins of used soap and plastic bottles. We'll be sorting the bottles to prepare them for hygiene kits. The hygiene kits will then be shipped out to victims of natural disasters, local area shelters, homeless organizations and impoverished countries throughout the world.
Gloves will be supplied if needed. Younger volunteers, need to be 10 years of age and must be accompanied by a parent. Clean the World couldn't do their important humanitarian work without the help of volunteers like us.
Volunteer commitment will be no more than 2 fast paced hours. Plenty of water will be on hand. The warehouse is cooled solely by swamp coolers, so it won't quite be as well air conditioned as you might be used to.
Hope to see you there!
Please, please, please RSVP with integrity. Any questions, feel free to text me at 439-8857.
