Opportunity Village's Magical Forest 1-6-14

This is Opportunity Village‘s 22nd year to host the “Magical Forest”.   As you probably know, Opportunity Village is a 100% local charity that serves people with intellectual disabilities to improve the quality of their lives and the lives of their families.  Proceeds from this extraordinary event go directly to support programs and services for the 3,000 people with disabilities served every year.

The “Magical Forest” is located on the Oakey campus at 6300 West Oakey, between Rainbow and Jones. It features a forest with over 300 decorated, sponsored trees and displays from local businesses. The magic continues with, trains carrying visitors through the forest, a carousel, amusement rides, a mini golf course, food and beverage booths, visits with Santa, holiday entertainment in the gym, Santa’s gift cabin and much more.

Can you help? I can guarantee you'll get a free cup of the most delicious hot chocolate you have ever tasted and this is an outstanding way to feel that holiday spirit.

The Magical Forest is a wonderful experience for “kids” of all ages. From the moment you enter you are enchanted by the sights and sounds of the holiday season. From strolling through decorated trees and displays to photos with Santa and nightly entertainment, there is something for everyone. We will help run this as we are needed.

Below are some of the different activities going on that night that you may end up helping out with: - entrance gate; collect tickets and welcome all of the wonderful people coming to support Opportunity Villages biggest fundraiser! - Enjoy a ride on our passenger train. The FOREST EXPRESS winds it way through the two acre forest giving visitors another angle to view the many trees and displays. - Our ENCHANTED CAROUSEL will delight riders and spectators alike. Featuring beautiful animals, lights and traditional carousel music you will find yourself lost in the moment. - Looking for more of a thrill? Then climb to the top of our 40’ ALPINE SLIDE, the view is amazing! For the little ones check out the Junior Alpine Slide. - Feeling hungry yet… Visit the GIFT BOX CAFE and enjoy a warm funnel cake, hot dog, burger or pizza as you are entertained nightly by local performing groups. - Another Magical Forest favorite is the GINGERBREAD HOUSE and GIFT BASKET display and raffle and don’t forget to stop by our GIFT CABIN, agreat place to get some holiday shopping done.

Of course all of this MAGIC is a team effort and it takes[masked] volunteers a night. Please arrive on time by 4:30pm. Park at the back of the Opportunity Village building and follow the volunteer signs to the gym (access is off Community College Drive.) Jobs will be assigned by the staff of Opportunity Village when we meet in the gym. You can expect to be there until 9:30pm. It is difficult to leave early from most stations, so make sure you let someone know if you won't be staying the entire night; it is preferable to have volunteers that can commit until 9:30pm. All volunteers must be 18 yrs old.

Dress warmly as it could be quite chilly at night and be sure to wear comfortable shoes as you most likely won't be sitting much. ALL Proceeds raised at the Magical Forest will benefit people with disabilities at Opportunity Village. Since 1954 Opportunity Village has been serving men and women in our community to provide them with programs and services to help enrich their lives.

Hope to see you there!

Hi I am interested in joining this event. I do not get off work until 5 would I be able to come late or should I wait for the next event? If it's alright to come late what are some of the tasks. I said no to the RSVP so I did not reserve a spot if coming late is not a good idea. Thank you

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
