Clean the World

Wash those hands!

Imagine, if you dare, a life without soap. Impoverished people around the world die every day form acute respiratory and diarrheal disease simply because they have no soap. Every year more than five million lives are lost to these diseases, with the majority of deaths being children under age five.

With all that in mind, a local non-profit called "Clean the World," has come up with an amazing concept.

Discarded soaps, shampoo bottles, conditioners and lotions are now being collected, and brought to their huge warehouse. The organization has distributed more than 8 million bars of recycled soap and hygiene kits where needed.

The soaps and bottles, which would otherwise be thrown away after a one time use, are used to battle the spread of disease. After the items are collected, they go through a cleaning process that make them just as sanitary and effective as one you would buy in a store or unwrap in a luxury hotel.

Volunteers

From the moment I first heard about Clean the World, I was so impressed and knew right away members of A.O.K. would love to be involved with this amazing organization.

Join me, at the Clean the World warehouse on Friday, November 30th at 12:00pm. After arriving we'll see a short video on the organization, tour the facility and then get down to some business. There'll be bins and bins of used soap and plastic bottles. We'll be sorting the bottles to prepare them for hygiene kits. The hygiene kits will then be shipped out to victims of Hurricane Sandy, local area shelters, homeless organizations and impoverished countries throughout the world.

Gloves will be supplied if needed. Younger volunteers, need to be 10 years of age and must be accompanied by a parent. Clean the World couldn't do their important humanitarian work without the help of volunteers like us.

Volunteer commitment will be no more than 2 fast paced hours. Plenty of water will be on hand.

Hope to see you there!

Denise

Great event. I can't believe how much soap we waste every day on the strip. It's amazing what one little thing can do.

Amazing to see all the soap and shampoo going to keep people healthy rather than going to a landfill! Such a GREAT idea!

Cannot make this meetup, but I'm sure a lot of us would like to know how to donate to the cause.

All volunteers attending must fill out their waiver form. You can print out the form before arriving at the warehouse. You'll find it under the MORE tab in Files. If you are unable to print the form, please plan on arriving a few minutes earlier tomorrow. Thank you

Hey guys, jot down the phone # of the Clean the World office just in case you need directions[masked]
I know sometimes these warehouse buildings can be a tad tricky to find, just try and give yourself ample time to get there.
    Thanks!
