  • Hi Andy- You would have to take the subway to Penn Station and then the LIRR to Port Washington. This might be too much traveling for you. It would be 2 hrs to get here. You should consider joining Greta Lood's group of Central Park Plein Air Painter's. It would be much closer and they are a great group of people/artists. Here is her link: http://www.meetup.com/Plein-air-in-Ce.... Let me know what you decide to do. Best- Larry

  • Hi, Andy. I'm glad to know that there will be a few members close to my age--I am turning 60 in November. Of course, I remember Gay Community News; and I frequently attend seminars at CLAGS. Looking forward to meeting you.

  • Andy, L.L.Bean is a great place to check out kayaks also. You can try out the kayak before you purchase it. There are daily Outdoor Kayak experiences at the LLBean Retail Store in Freeport. Check it out...I have worked for LLBean for the past 19 years. Enjoy your time here in Maine...Kathleen

Since you're going to be on Deer Isle, one place to look at kayaks there is Old Quarry Adventures in Oceanville, in Stonington. (www.oldquarry.com) ...even though it might seem cheaper buy a kayak, it will pay to check out some kayaks and rent one or go on a day trip with Old Quarry guides (or other kayak guides) first. Then you will know more about what kind of kayak you like and what works well for you. Always wear your life jacket.
You also might find some kayak sales up there in DI.

Deer Isle is a beautiful place. Enjoy every minute of it! :)
My partner & I do some kayaking in the Belgrade Lakes area: Parker Pond, Flying Pond, Taylor Pond & Hopkins stream near the 'tall chimney' by Echo Lake; but we haven't been up to Deer Isle for over a year. Have fun on the Island.
